Hi Guys! I'd like to have some info on the use of Gopro cameras for close-up tricks... How do you connect the cameras? Thanks!!!

What are you trying to record, which angles?
Audience, hands, up front, behind the scenes. Is this for personal use or commercial. Just because the GoPro is trendy does not mean it's the best camera for you.

As you're asking about connecting cameras, I'm assuming you're interested in using it to take broadcast the feed either via projector or large tv screen.
If this is the case, you should know there is a delay on GoPro cameras and as such, may be a poor choice for live broadcast. Robert |

Went to my local electronics store and they told me the gopro would not do a live feed. A bit pricey, but you may want to look at an 'elmo' camera. You won't have to worry about a camera stand.

Interesting, however I'm not fan of Elmo and rather use a Sesame Street Big Bird camera.
For a live feed you need an Analog camera, if it's digital it processing and that creates a delay. Analog is realtime. If you find a Cookie Monster analog camera you scored.

True, go pro cameras are wonderful for their intended use but not that effective if you just need to project a close-up magic onto a screen. The first question is resolution. If it's for broadcast you need a higher quality care but if you have good light and are in control of where it's mounted, I have found security cameras are a very easy and inexpensive alternative. They are analog and can be wired to go directly into a switcher or even directly to the projector if necessary. This is one that would probably do OK for most moderate size screens
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/83......CLR.html If cabling is difficult, there are even wireless options that provide pretty good resolution for the money. Don't try and find something at a department store. Just go to commercial vendors and check on the options. Even if there is a Fry's electronics close by, they will have a lot of security camera options that might be worth considering.

I love GoPros in that they're light enough to clip anywhere. BUT... they're a pain to control (exposure in particular, if the lighting isn't uniform).
Ray's suggestion re. security cameras is good. It's also worth looking at decent consumer camcorders - the quality can be great and you can easily control exposure, zoom and focus. Or, if you're just recording and don't need to project to a screen, you can even get good results with a mobile phone (if you lock the exposure and focus). If you're projecting to a screen, as gothike says, an analogue output should avoid delay ('latency'). Try and get one with component HD analogue output. If possible, connect that straight to your screen for minimal delay - you'll need to ensure your camera works in the same video format (resolution, frame rate, interlacing type) as your screen. If you need to connect to other components (e.g. a switching system), Blackmagic Design's Analogue to HDMI (or Analogue to SDI) converters don't introduce much delay. Bear in mind that delay can be introduced by switchers, projectors, converters, splitters - basically everywhere in the chain. So you'd need to consider the set-up as a whole. Happy to advise further if you have more info about the setup (e.g. numbers of cameras, type of switcher, number of screens, cable run distances, etc.)? Cheers, David |

Could anyone tell me if the latest GoPro camera is capable of live feed without delay? I've read some information online about their use for live streaming with converters but the lingo I've encountered is beyond my skill level. Thanks for any help you can provide on this.
