A Pringles can? What type of spring do you use? I would think that lid would come off rather easily with a little pressure.

I've been using the "comedy balloon pump" (that Magic Inc. first sold in 1965) since then. the pump was "remanufactured" from the old SS Adams, peanut brittle can. (My pump still works just fine)
I did have my "bag lady" recover the snakes (they were "drab") with bright designed material. When Frances stopped making them, I had some made up, and now sell them when I lecture.

Loftus international makes a good one ( made in taiwan). I place the snake in a rel name brand container, like Emeralds almonds.

Yep - Pringles can and recovered springs with bright, light-weight material.. On my giant spring wand Instuffed so many snakes I had to build-in a pin to keep the lid on - easily ditched before the trick.

I picked up a vintage Adam's snake can with a cloth covered snake today. The quality is unbelievable.

What are some ideas to put a spring snake in that isn't as obvious as a can of peanut brittle or Pringles can?

Hi cbguy...
In 1965, Magic Inc. made a "comedy balloon pump". It basically was an Adams Peanut Brittle can, with a 'nozzle' added to the cap, and a 'handle' added to the bottom of the can. (it was a metal rod, with a handle that could slide up and down on the rod. The snakes were the Adams snakes. I bought one, as I was doing a 'safety' program in schools, using balloon animals. When I stopped doing that program I used the pump fairly often when I did a balloon animal or two. I developed a routine for reloading the snake (I had the snakes sewed together, to make one long snake. --That, made it easier to control where the snake 'went', when released.) It was a fun routine, which got the snake back into the pump for the next show. The routine is published in my book. Finally the market was saturated, and Frances Marshall stopped making them. I was booked to lecture at the SAM convention in New York, and, Fran OK'd my making up some pumps. My "bag lady' recovered the Adams snakes, with 'flashy' material, and, I sold a 'bunch' of pumps! Apparently the market got saturated again! While cleaning out my storage facility, I found one pump. PM me if you wish, and perhaps it might answer your needs. I'll be in Milwaukee WI for the Houdini Club convention next weekend.

For larger snakes, I prefer the "tiny countertop garbage cans" available on Amazon for about five bucks. Small snakes can be launched from a mouth guard storage box with just a slight squeeze. Pm me and I will send you some links!. |

David Ginn has an idea on his web site that uses an old wire clothing hanger and a regular can. Works with plastic as well. And yes, you can.launch the snake well after you open the can!

By the way, I am working on a spring snake PDF book. It will feature a snake gun and cannon, a simple device available on Amazon for under $4.00 that you can hold in the palm of your hand to launch a snake! Several containers that are great for launching spring snakes, the best places to buy snakes, repairs on the go and more! Video links included. Best of all a $5. Donation to a public school for kids with ASD is all it will cost you!
