I bought this a few days ago and really have enjoyed what I've read. He has really inspired me and got my brain going on how to make better money performing magic.
Does anyone else have his book and if so what did you think? Sean |

I've got both the book and the tape. Joel is a very "in your face" magician and he doesn't always play "by the rules." That's what makes him so valuable to corporate clients. He reminds me of one of those car salesmen who just won't let you leave without the keys to a new car.
Learning from this marketing book or tape is like learning any routine. You have to adapt it to your own style. If I pulled some of the stuff here in central Illinois that he pulls, I wouldn't have much business. If I used it in Chicago, it would probably work. |

I'm in Poland but I find the book very helpful. I'm a rather busy performer and some new ideas he gives are very time saving to me. As far as new techniques for booking shows they are great. If you are busy performing, any good book of this type can do you good. I'm sometimes too tired to think up some new ways to sell myself. The book gives you that. A lot of information I found useful. I read the book in one evening, now I have to digest it and take what best suits me from it. Besides Hustle Hustle, what other (not $400.00 books or courses) do you guys find helpful and would not hesitate to recommend?
Thanks a lot. Pawel |

I got Hustle Hustle when it first came out years and years ago. What I liked most about it was his systematic marketing methods.
Let me tell you a little secret many of us who are considered "successful" know... you don't have to be necessarily good at marketing, have good materials, etc. If you have a system of *continuously marketing*, you'll out-do most of your competition! Now, I'm NOT saying send out ****. I'm saying, the secret is in making contacts, doing follow-ups regularly without fail. THAT will bring you success quickly. I highly recommend his stuff to magicians. Cheers. Blair FREE Newsletter reveals inside money-making secrets of successful mentalists & psychics! www.Mental-List.com |

One of the best things about Joel's book is he teaches you how to be proactive. Remember the addage about people making their own luck?

I have Hustle Intensive 2 which is a 4 video set. It's for sale. It's basically Joel talking about his system and it includes many ideas. Please let me know if interested.

What do you guys think of Joel's newspaper tear? I think it is great and started using it. What I like about it, you make the gimmick once and it is good for many performances.

There are a few good points in Hustle, Hustle.
It was published over three decades ago. I tend to think the only reason it got a few good reviews from big names initially was because it was the only book of its kind at the time of publication (aside from maybe Brian Flora's stuff such as The Master Marketing Manual, which is better in most if not all ways--the format of the book, the font, the writing, the maturity, the humor, and the wealth of experience of the author, Brian Flora). A lot of the advice is obsolete now, as the book was written before there were websites, internet, or email. Additionally, Joel wrote it when he was 17 years old--and it shows. It's a pain to read because there are typos and misspellings in almost every sentence--even in the titles of books he recommends, and the font looks like 10pt or maybe even smaller. If Joel was/is a successful, busy magician, it was probably due to his high-energy action/action/action mentality, and not due to the brilliance of the advice he prescribes in Hustle, Hustle. He seems like he is extremely motivated, and regardless of the tactics or system he used, he would be successful. Even if his sales system was the least effective one, he would outperform his competitors due to his massive action. |

While I know it's never going to happen, I often thought it would be great if guys like Joel Bauer and Dave Dee would reissue their magic marketing works based on where we are in today's world.

Dave Dee does have a whole new marketing Internet website program, he sells his design and sales methods.
Joel Bauer was all contact oriented sales method, thus the Hustle, Hustle title. I think it would be nearly the same. He went after his business, he did not set and wait for them to contact him. I had a friend went out to L.A. and spent a day with Joel Bauer, the said they ran all over L.A. all day long, seeing clients, and make contacts. My friend was overwhelmed with how much energy Bauer had all day. |

Don't worry. The new brand of "guru" keep rehashing the same stuff.

No worries. Marketing is marketing. Dave got everything from Dan Kennedy anyway.
