Please remember that Mike's routine was put together for an adult audiences and not for kids, it's all in the presentation. We seemed to have that mind set on the first routine we see and thinks that it's the only way to present that trick, the egg bag is an example, everyone is doing Ken Brook's routine. The Linking Coat Hangers can be used to entertain children, just be a little creative and think of how you can use it to have fun with the kids, never mind Mike's presentation. Tricky Ricky |

I am not so sure you will be successful using this on children. It's based on the specs leaving their eyes closed and the audience playing along.
Kids sometimes aren't so cooperative. Actually I'm thinking of the darkness routine. Never mind. J |

An update on my journey with the linking Coat Hangers.
I’m now back working on the cruise ships and I have just started to include the Hangers in my No 1 show. The routine I’ve ended up with is now working pretty well and I think the key reason why is because I finally found a way to perform an original short routine without the routine bringing me out of character. I think my interest in the intricacies of coming up with novel links and handlings was making me slightly ‘precious’ about this effect. I was also getting bogged down in ‘setting the effect up’. I was wanting to communicate these intricacies and rationales to the audience when reall what I needed to do was just do the routine and let the audience take their own thing from it. The most important thing was finding a way to make sure that what I brought to the routine was 100% my uncompromised on-stage persona. Ironically giving the handling and intricacies little regard has worked out best for me. The comedy I’ve worked into the routine is not stellar, but it certainly strong enough for it to still fit the rest of my show and earn its place. And the magic quotient of the effect gives me an additional routine to include when the more surreal or left field stuff starts to threaten to lead the show into the realms of being inaccessible for mainstream audiences. In this regard it’s a valuable tool in my arsenal. I am still finding my feet with the routine in that I still feel I have to guard against becoming a, ‘look at me doing a clever trick’ magician performing the routine, and I need to get more comfortable that the scripting but I’m happy with the work that’s gone into this and it now feels like it’s at last starting to pay off. (It’s only taken me about 20+ years!!!)

I understand Sealegs it takes years to polish routines and make them to satisfaction. The work is never done sometimes!
