I have a video of my extension of the Hot Shot Cut here.
The regular Hot Shot Cut can be learned in Art Of Astonishment by Paul Harris. Shane Wiker |

Actually, the Hot Shot Cut taught in The Art of Astonishment isn't the regular. It is a "sleightly" modified "simpler" version. I learned the HSC from Greg Wilson's Card Stunts. I highly recommend this video.

You should be looking out for my lecture notes that are going to appear this summer or so.
In there you'll find a nice way of doing the hot shot cut, except mine is more deceptive and it is sooooo easy to do. If you can hold a deck of cards, you're able to do it- almost. Take Care, Philipp

There have been many variations lately of the Shot Cut, but I prefer Daryl's method because I think it was the one that started it all.

I believe the hot shot cut is also on Oz's/Penguin's Born to Perform DVD, Daryl's version.
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.

FWIW, the original description of Daryl's hot shot cut is in the booklet For Your Entertainment Pleasure. Stephen Minch is the author.

Does anyone else have this problem.....
I can shoot cards out, I JUST CAN'T CATCH THEM! My hand eye coordination is terrible. How on Earth can I improve that? And believe me I've tried!!!!! |

You can learn it on Oz Pearlmans 'Born to Perform' DVD.
As for catching the card, it's a case of practice, practice, practice. I learned to juggle to improve my hand and eye co-ordination. Maybe if you do something similar you might find it easier. Dizzy |

This is something I started doing because I thought it was fun. I always cut it in my right hand and caught it in my left. Then one day someone told me that most righties cut it in the left hand and caught it in their right, so I tried that just for the heck of it. Then I got good at both. Then one day I tried both hands simultaneously, and discovered I can do it in both hands at the same time, shoot both cards out at the same time, but trying to catch the card while your hand is holding the deck is really tough.
Any ideas on how to catch the card in that case? So far if I toss it JUST right I can just do it, but getting it to where I could do it reliably in both hands ... well, makes me look for an alternative idea to just catching the cards. |

Me too. I can shoot them out but can't grab. It is it, a wat to have you hand for the card to come in or something?!
If you believe what you do is real people around you will.

As silly as it sounds, it's just a matter of knowing how to catch. I'd say work on getting the HSC and the shoot out perfected, then worry about catching it. Once you do that, you will be consistant on the placement of the shot and from there, catching it should be a breeze.

Can shoot it but can't grab it??? yes, when first I learn hot shot that's the problem, just some advice, learn to shoot it to same location. and you will notice that there's a momentum when card flying and you can catch it or even, if you can shoot it to same location (etc your other hand) you can wait that card come to your hand... and there's manny variation for "spinning" the half deck before shoot...
o yes...i think de'vo xtreme beginner teach hot shot to, and it teach by daryl himself as special guest
best regards
