Hi guys, I know the smiles have been unavailable for a while now, do you happen to know when they might be back on, I really miss those guys, (especially the dancing chili pepper)
Cheers Tom |

Tom, they're really not gone, just hiding. Under each reply window you'll see the note about them being temporarily unavailable with a clickable link to them. Just click on smile code, copy/paste them into your message.

Ah cheers Dave I feel pretty stupid that it has been staring me in the face for so long, the only downside thewre used to be with the clickable smiles was the time it took for the whole page to load on my old dial up connection!
I'd also like to say what a great job all of you guys up here do, whenever a new post arrives you can guarantee a helpful reply in minutes, whether its an avatar problem or a name change. Well done 'Techies' you really are the cream of the Café!!!! Thanks Again Tom |

To be honest, I've forgotten about those clickable smilies. To reduce page load times we could always put a few of them below the posting boxes ... but which ones? There are something like a couple hundred smilies in use here - it's just too much to load them all as clickables, despite the fact that every member has the option to turn them off completely in his/her preference settings. Suggestions, anyone?
Somebody kick me off the computer, will ya?

Maybe just add a link "Smilies are here!" and have a pop up window with them.

Jaz, that's pretty much what we have. Click on the smile code button under the reply window and you get the smiles window.

OK, I see. Maybe because it's in the "Disable Smilies...etc" line that I never thought to click on it and always opened a new browser then went to FAQ's.
I thought that clicking this link would simply explain what Smilies were and just never bothered. Just thought that a link like "View Smilies" or something similar near the word "Message:" would be more visable and understood. |

I'll put some thought into it. It'd be nice if we knew which ones were the most popular. Or whatever!
