Well great. I just bought this trick from Tannen's (hasn't gotten here yet) but it sounds like I've wasted my money.
Maybe I'm misinterpreting. I was just floored when I saw this effect. |

You were floored when you saw it but you think you wasted your money?

Well, it sounds like I could've gotten the same effect by getting Ammar's (plus a ton of other tricks).
Yes, is looks amazing. I just want to make sure my money is well spent. I don't want to fall into the trap of getting an effect and then not being happy with it. Then having a pile of unused tricks in the corner. HA! |

Its not a waste of money. This was a featured effect on a TV special by Doug Henning years agi. It was all the rage back then. Its a great effect, but the principal is well known amongst seasoned magicians. Another effect that uses a similar principal is Flight 204 by Sean Fields. So it isn't anything to complain about.
I think you will like it. |

In fact, this was the opening effect of his FIRST special! (With Cosby) I remember thinking "Wow" "That's so magical!" In my mind, at the time, their was NO explanation for where the nickel went.

Right daffydoug. This has to be one of the closest I've seen to real magic. Ya'll know how it is. You see a great effect and start thinking, "ok, a plam there, and load, and okay...yeah, I see that..." but this is a stunning effect.

Admittedly, Ptigue, it WILL take some practice getting the timing right, but all great effects demand that of us.

This trick is much more angle friendly than most people think. If you're performing it one on one, or even a small group (as long as everyone is standing), you won't have any problems. The real problem with this effect, from a practical standpoint, is that it just does not pack well. You can't comfortably set up for this and then go out and perform it when you're ready. You can try. But no guarantees. And that's the reason this isn't the greatest coin vanish of all time.

I experienced this problem back when I was doing it, that's how I knew. I suppose an itr could be employed. But that would add to the expense of the effect.

My memory is getting bad, but I recall Doug doing it with a half dollar. Again I may be wrong but I am almost sure it was a half.
I had it and sold it on Ebay, it is still very affordable though. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

Right, my problem is getting the nickel from my wrist to my palm without it looking contrived. I'm looking for ways to do it with as little movement possible.

I do it with a jubmo 5 lb. morgan dollar. It plays to a much bigger audience that way.

I do it with manhole covers and invisible steel cable, not that I'm bragging or anything. Here is a picture of me trying to teach the effect to another magician.
