Hello everyone,
This is my first time in the grand illusion section. Last night while taking out the garbage I thought of an illusion that I would like to perform but have no idea on how do pull it off. Accomplishing this would probably improve my wife's relationship with my magic. I'm sure many if not all of you have thought of this at one time or another. But have you ever done it? I want to have my wife drive her car into the garage, close the door and come into the house normally. Then I want to open the garage door with the remote (full or half way whatever) and have the car vanish. Close the door and open a second time and have it re-appear. Is there an affordable way to do it? Any suggestions would be appreiciated. Thanks, Zero G |

Well zeroG, you are not looking at doing something easy. And if it's going to be such a...grand trick, I would get the whole neighborhood to watch, not just your wife!
Aside from getting a forklift, or cutting a whole in the back wall of your garage, I would suggest going to the nearest bookstore and trying to find books on Grand Illusion. There's a reason why most Grand Illusions are performed on TV specials, because they are too hard to pull off without some type of...editing? But don't let that discourage you. There IS a way. I just don't know it. But put a lot of effort into learnign different methods of vanishing large objects, and then maybe you can apply those methods to your wife's car. Good luck! -Priest-

The only way I can help you is to say that there are two possibilities. Either you have to actually get the car out of the garage, or you can make it only look like it's not there. After you've decided on that, you can figure out how to do it. It sounds like a hard one, though. Hey, not all grand illusions are done with TV editing, though. David Copperfield is just as incredible (if not more so) in his stage show as on all his TV specials!

eps,
Why do you say it has very limited appeal? Think of the advertising possibilities. "Garage not big enough? Now you can vanish your car and have all of that space available for other uses." "The vanishing automobile! Coming soon to garages across the nation." "Dad won't let you use the car tonight? He can't stop you if he can't find it." "Didn't make your last three installment payments? Don't you worry. Let the repo guy worry." Yep, the appeal is tremendous, but the method ... Of course I'm perfectly serious. Aren't we all? Sid

Hey Zero G,
This sounds like it might be cool! Give me an idea of "affordable" and I will give it some thought. I have one possible method but rather than go further, I need to know your estimated budget. Chance
