Well, for one, just about every Movado out there lacks a sweep second hand, and no one can say that a Movado isn't a quality time piece. There are also at least two Timex watches out there without sweep second hands and one Citizen that I am aware of and at least one Swatch (non-digital) that lacks one as well.
If you don't make a point of it, then your audience won't, either. With all the oddball designer watches out there, very few people are going to think that you went to the trouble of gaffing a watch anyway, especially those people who know anything about how watches are made. Your mileage may vary, but that's how it works for me. Lee Darrow, C.H.

Ok then. So there you have it. From Movado to Timex. Citizen to Swatch. Just do a Google search and see for yourself how many watches of every known and unknown brand name, every category, in all price ranges come with and without sweep second hands (and date windows, etc.). There are countless variations out there! Based on that simple fact, believing that anyone would associate the addition or lack of a time-keeping feature to being gaffed is ludicrous at best.
So I maintain that if they are suspicious of the effect, it is your performance or handling that's making them suspicious and not your watch. |

I timed my original Perfect Time and it was 135 seconds for a "full cycle" Another review on the watch with images can be found at Andy Martin's site

I own the original. I don't mean this next remark to be a criticism of any one person's performance, but I do feel that if you are questioned on the look of the watch, one reason may be that the routine may appear to be too "magical" (leading to someone thinking "gimmicks", particularly when it is the performer's watch that is used), versus "mental" (here meaning "ordinary objects").

Just curious if "missing" the time by 4 or 5 minutes makes a stronger demonstration of your physic abilities.

Hi Myster,
Anything is possible. I have seen some well-known performers miss and it gets a mixed reaction. Some people take it as a validation, others see it as lackluster. So you takes your chances! As for me, I prefer to err on the side of accuracy. So I'm always right on the money! |

Thanks PBG. Question can the time be stopped and re-started. Say you ask for the hour and your seconds away from the hour before you even ask the second spec for the minutes?

You might feel better missing it this way if you are demonstrating at least one other effect that you hit dead on. Terry

For those that are using Perfect Time 3, would you use it as your everyday watch? As well, does it keep accurate time? Further, what reaction are you getting from this effect?
I look forward to all replies as I am considering ordering this watch and have been waiting for this improved update for some time. Thanks. |

I recieved my Perfect Time 3 today. This will be my everyday watch. The workings are fantastic, it keeps perfect time.
I've used the Time Machine and was never comfortable with the move required to stop the watch. That said there are many people that do not have an issue at all with the move the Time machine requires. The ability to stop the watch with absolutely no visible move at all does make a difference to me. I don't believe it is a case of running when your not being chased. IMHO Perfect Time is just cleaner. Recommended ! |

Myster:
I would be wary in using the Perfect Time III as your everyday watch since wearing it everyday will cause the band to bend and/or deteriorate more quickly than if you used it strictly for performances necessitating a rather expensive replacement of the band. Best regards, Michael

The only real drawback to this, otherwise wonderful piece of engineering, is that its usefulness will be its downfall - It will only be a matter of months before it appears on eBay! Then thousands of possible future spectators will see it when they are searching for a watch to buy their Uncle Sid. It's also bound to be advertised there as a "Magic Timepiece, as used by ____" (insert the name of the most recent prominent Mentalist). And you have exposure on a grand scale. You take it off your wrist to begin the routine and everyone gasps - "Oh, is that a trick watch from eBay."
It will happen. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow - but someday soon. Jack

Jack,
While I certainly understand your concern, I do not foresee this as a realistic drawback. TimeTrix, Watch and Wear, and Time Machine have been on and off ebay for sometime and I have never had anyone ever question my use of any of these watches as being similar to the "magic watches" sold on ebay. I will be ordering the new Perfect Time since it is a superior watch than the ones previously mentioned. Best regards. Michael

Michael,
I hope you are right. In point of fact, I have just started to use my 'Time Machine' watch again now (it no longer looks like a Time Machine watch, however, since I had my friendly jeweler put the works into a different case for me). I did not write my earlier comments from personal experience, no one has questioned me about it either! BUT, it will happen - and where's the credibility for all the other marvels gone when someone suggests you use a 'trick watch'? JD

It's the WAY that I say it that actually TOTALLY dismisses that possibility from the minds of the spectators! Very clever, huh? Ok so HOW do I do that and what exactly do I say? Well, I have scripted a whole new way to present this effect. If you are interested, I plan to make it available to Viking. I'll let you know if that happens here. Stay tuned. :) |
