I have two old Egg Bags that I must have had for at least 15 years.
I know that there are many different styles/types, and wanted help identifying mine. It's been so long I've forgotten. Bag #1 the gimmicked area runs side to side the entire width of the bag, and is located in the center of the bag. Bag #2 the gimmicked area is much smaller, runs diagonally, and is located at one of the bottom corners. Hope the descriptions are clear. Trying to be clear without being TOO clear! ;^) Thanks for the help! Mark
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Bag #2 is probably a Malini. It's typically made of a silky black material, although I have a red one.
Bag #1 may be a Tarbell Bag, but I'd need to know if the opening of the gaff only runs halfway accross the bag or not. There's a description of the Tarbell bag in Tarbell 2. The Senor Mardo bag is similar, if not identical. If the pocket runs the entire width of the bag, it's like the one that McComb uses for his Whiskey Bag routine; the bag was made for McComb, by a friend of Ted Leslie. See the Stevens Magic video on the egg bag, for details. |

Alan,
Thanks for the reply. About your question on bag #1, the gaffe runs the entire width of the bag. From your post, it sounds like there is more than one possible name for this bag. Probably have to actually see it to I.D. it. Oh, well - no big deal. Thanks for your help! Mark Mark

Hi,
I agree on bag #2 in that it sounds like a Malini Egg Bag. I've had a Tarbell Egg Bag. The Mardo Bag sold by Martin Lewis is a bit bigger. You can tell if your bag is one of these if it is plaid. The Mardo Bag is usually a red tartan. Tarbell recommends blue tartan. Neither of these match your description though in that the faked part in yours goes all the way across as discribed. I wonder if your bag #1 is actually not plaid at all but solid in color. In that case it may some kind of dove bag. Probably not though. If the front of the bag is mesh, you have a Jack Chanin Egg Bag, later marketed also by someone else, perhaps Ian Adair. |

Mark,
The only egg bag I know of with the opening running the entire width of the bag is the Japanese Egg-Bag. This egg bag is described in Professor Hoffman's Modern Magic. I hope this helps.
