Then, of course, they should not have originally promised a DVD at the time of purchase.

They could still make a DVD, as this comes up about once a year. The problem as I see it, is that they want it for free or next to nothing as cost to them. Then again, they could be waiting for Stone in the U.K. to make the video instructions for the Ken Brooke line. Stone was the first to promise videos of the performances, and has not ever done that. Of course, most the creators are deceased or very old now, and the tricks would not come off as originally created.
The cost of making a high quality DVD would make the price skyrocket to hundreds of dollars. We all have read the blasting for DVD instructions that have not been movie quality. Also, I don't think they ever promised, they may have mentioned it, but not promised. I see no need for a video, if you are performer, and intend to use the trick in your act. Only someone collecting video instruction secrets would be so insistent. Claiming that the only way they could buy or learn a trick, is if it was provided with video instructions is just to weak a reason. That market is just to small to produce such things. I am sure Stevens Magic would be open to anyone with high quality video equipment and a famous funny professional magician to make and produce the Ken Brooke instructions for free and no cost. The producer would have to convert Ken Brooke's personality and performing tips to screen. Maybe a high end experienced director from Hollywood could volunteer. |

Agree. After literally years of trying to get them to respond to many requests for explanation, compensation, etc., they have still not uttered a single word.

Also Alan Shaxon's Confabulation, as that was the plans of Paul Stone in Europe. Paul Stone did provide a performance video of Alan Shaxon, but nothing for the Rising Cards to my knowledge. But in business even the best plans fall through. |

I know this post is a few years old but wondered if someone can give me a genuine answer, either here or PM. I've been offered the Ken Brooke Nemo 1500, expensive for me but this trick is one I've wanted to own ever since I saw it in a very old Paul Stone Ace Place catalogue (Which I still have!). However, something concerns me in the way it's performed. In the catalogue effect description it quotes "The magician then asks the spectator to pick up the wallet FROM the table". However, all the performances of this trick on the web do not have the wallet left on the table but is removed from the pocket after the card is chosen?
I personally never like to remove something from the pocket AFTER a spectator have made a choice. Having the wallet upon the table during the routine would be a real strong effect for me. So is the catalogue description bending the truth slightly? |

It's a fine routine, and for a period Johnny Thompson claims he made a living from it at trade shows.
Certainly the wallet gets pulled out from your pocket AFTER they've named their card, but that doesn't necessarily detract from the two-stage finish. It's an effect Ken Brooke sold me that I have used ever since! Even if they were able to pick up the wallet (and there is a way to make that possible) they still have to hand it to you to open, so the effort you have to expend to enable that is not justified by the small benefit it achieves. You would have to live with the fact that the the wallet from which your prediction card is extracted is not examinable. The methodology is all Koran - but the presentation supplied is gold dust. It's a great corporate effect. And it's beautifully made. |

I, ABSOLUTELY, LOVE this effect!
Many years ago, a spec., who wasn't involved in the effect, & I didn't know, he, after the performance, picked up the deck, examined it, & said there were some d********s. Since that happened, I !@#$*d, only, one card. Then, Mr. Mike Rose released "The Grail"! WONDERFUL!!! WONDEFUL!!! Now I use that setup, have the spec. name any number, between 1 & 52, I display the deck, face-up, do the necessary: if the number isn't a direct hit, & leave it in full view. (Deck, after the effect, can be examined) I remove my (small) ".....r .....t, open it, showing I have a prediction card. (Any spec. can see a card inside, (note: there is a half-moon, cutaway, that allows a small side of the card to show) it is closed & tabled) Never been questioned about it. I do carry another one, if a *****h is needed. Have the spec. p/u the deck, depending on the number, ask him/her to deal face-up, or face-down. Must mention, as it was stated, here, already, I no-longer use the gold embossed wallets, wallets are nice looking. Have been told, somehow, the arrived @ card was *****d. If anyone is interested in purchasing the Stevens' version: https://www.stevensmagic.com/shop/nemo-1500-ken-brooke/ Have fun everyone. Warmest regards, Sixten |

For those who have owned the effect from Stevens Magic for a few years, how does the embossing on the wallet hold up?
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Hi, Mr. Chessmann,
Very well. I removed the original card value embossments (didn't care for them) & replaced them , years ago, & they look as if it was done recently. |

At that time you present the deck and instructions for them to deal face down to their specified "stopped at" card. After that's done, the wallet comes out into play again at this time. As far as the gold embossing holding up, mine is still like new condition, but then again, I am very careful to handle these with care. It is a killer routine as everyone has said and you won't be disappointed if you pick one up. As a side note, I see where Stevens magic is selling this as one wallet and it stays out the complete time before the trick begins. |

You are welcome.
(For those, who don't know, during his demo., Mr. Joe Stevens, returns, the wallet, after displaying a prediction card, to his pocket.) |

I bought this effect many years ago at Innovention in Las Vegas.
Paul Stone was hosting the event. I saw Johnny Thompson perform this live and videotaped him doing Nemo 1500. I just posted it on youtube. Johnny does not do it like the instructions tell me at all. He has the wallet and envelope shown before the spectator deals the cards. Yes, The spectator deals the cards... AND he deals them FACE UP and stops wherever he wants. In fact, after showing the spectator the $100 and the wallet with the envelope, he let's the spectator put the wallet, with the envelope and the $100 in his back pocket to hold on to, and the spectator has NOT arrived at a card yet. This is why I haven't performed this effect yet. I wanted to do it like J T. And in the instructions Paul Stone says, and I quote, "Also we are in the process of releasing a full instructional DVD which explains in a far clearer manner the routine and handling of this brilliant effect." I contacted Paul Stone several times but never got a reply. And no instructional DVD has ever been forth coming. I have to ASSUME that Johnny Thompson only used one wallet and several envelopes in that wallet. Also, I doubt Johnny used the same type of "deck" that is supplied. Why do I say this? He let the spectator deal the cards face up. Maybe I'm wrong. I read in an earlier post, page 1 that it is written in J T's upcoming book. That was a post from 2005. I will look in his book and see.

https://youtu.be/0gV5UDlHz1c After my previous post, I went to my Johnny Thompson book (s) and found his routine. Johnny uses a Himber Wallet. I did not know this, nor have ever used a Himber wallet. I will be getting one soon. Also, Thank you Sixten for the information on The Grail by Mike Rose. It is all a learning process.
