A dead naked body is found in the middle of a desert. In his hand, a broken match is found... and nothing else.

what happened?

Jonathan, do you know this one? I had a feeling you did from the above post.

That depends on the condition of the body. Broken I can guess at. Naked... clueless.

My guess would be the person drew a short match and then fell from a GREAT height, which accounts for the clothes being blown off the body during the fall.

This one had something to do with a hot-air balloon?
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,
And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.

Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain,
For who goes up your winding stair
-can ne'er come down again.

Yes I believe you are correct. So is Jon except for the clothes, I believe the clothes were shed before the straws (matches) were drawn.

Then the hot air balloon is sinking. Everyone aboard dumped everything to make it lighter, including their clothes. Not enough. Matches were drawn. Short match lost. Over he goes... and one naked dead body in the desert with a match in his hand.

Mr Townsend makes a good point, why would there be any impact? If the balloon is sinking surely they can just land and let the poor fellow get out.

Consider this senario; A group of people are in an air balloon. The balloon becomes damaged or punctured and they are losing altitude above the middle of the desert. They throw away everything in the balloon, including their clothes and yet it is still apparent that they are going to crash into the middle of the desert...Etc,etc.

If a damaged balloon lands (even softly) in the middle of the desert. They ain't going to be lifting off anytime soon. Patrick got it.

Uh... couldn't they just walk out of the desert rather than kill their friend?

You can survive in the desert, for extended periods of time if needed.... probably not worth killing your friend.

Or just let him out like 10 feet over the ground, and with the loss in weight it should rise again...
