This morning, I was lucky enough to recieve a CD of photos for the EA website from the lovely Morgan, in the mail. Along with the CD, the little sweetie sent plans for the cross escape, something I've been looking for, for a long time.
It will cost me about $100.00 to have my cabinet maker build it for me...which is no big deal, I will finish it myself to make it look antique. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that I need an assistant. My show is a one man show (as you may know, I'm a billet worker and no longer a full time EA). Does any one here have any ideas how I can perhaps alter the escape where I do not need an assistant and have the escape just as fast ? I have a strange feeling that I just may have to hire someone. Steve Baker (bless his heart) got my fire burning for escapes again and so far I have added a packing crate to my big stage show. Now, thanks to Morg, I have added the cross escape...thank you both ! Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer to use rope and not chain on the cross escape...chain knocks the heck out of the wood. Thanks. ~Rick~ |

Rick,
PM me Thayer's basic configuration and methodology for the escape and I'll try to think out some options. I do a one-man act myself, so have gotten rather resourceful at minimizing or eliminating assistant help. Steve

Hi Ian, thanks for telling me about the PM box. Morg sent me the plans for the Thayer cross escape (the little sweetie)...I'm looking for a method on how to get past using the assistant, I don't even have to use the Thayer method...I just really like the idea of the escape itself...it plays big and packs small.
I'm looking for a "quick release" method...I've thought of bridge jumpers, but...naaaa, to easy to catch...I was thinking if anyone here knows a good spirit tie...and then tying the wrists to the cross that wound take care of that...I'd just have to worry about the body ropes. Murphy's law.....I'll probably end up needing an assistant... ~Rick~ |

You might want to see if you can find a copy of a rare harbin book called "harbincadabra" (sp??).
He has a variation on the assistants revenge that could be built into a very effective escape. |

Rick if you need an assistant, give a shout.
Perry, Don and Daniel - don't give me too many ideas. I will do it when Rick has the dog kennel set up with chain outside the house. LOL. Regards Wolflock
