I have reason to believe there are in fact, thousands of these decks out there. They're not rare at all! IT'S JUST AN ILLUSION. The reason they seem so rare is that everyone has a few decks on their shelf they're afraid to touch. People just buy them and hoard them, and maybe 4 magi and 3 flourishers actually use them in videos for "wow" effect (wow, those are expensive I can't believe he's touching them, he should have those on a shelf collecting dust somewhere).

Hmm, while this could be the truth, I really doubt it. If my information is correct, these cards went out of print years ago. As they were only available from one place, I think the total number of decks made was relatively small.

There is a really classy looking bicycle-back-design which is out of print. No one wants to pay hundreds of dollars for these, do they?
People who spend this much on playing cards, should consider donating money to people who are not as fortunate. They obviously have too much money on their hands.
Deal cards, not drugs!

Actually what the original post says is closer to the truth than you think. There were a lot of the decks printed. Whoever was in charge of casno at that time did not care for the way the decks looked after they were recieved. It took several years before the decks were sold out. The collectors and magicians out there rarely if ever open the decks they have left. True there are not nearly as many of the decks out there as say 20 years ago but there is more then you think.

I have actually seen someone do a torn and restored with these cards. I just think they look cool, I don't care who has used them before or how many were made. I just want a set to mess around with.
Attention all those with decks on your shelves: Get them off, others want some! |

New Fan backs were made and sold up untill the early 90's and there are much more rare backs of Bikes (Bicycle and Bee had many, many different backs at one time) and others out there. Collectors and others who are serious about cards, magic, and it's history have no problem paying whatever the market asks. As I said elsewhere, it's only too much if no one will pay it. And to set the record straight, there weren't tons of these cards made. A couple runs for the casino gift shop, if that. And as for having too much money on their hands, who is to say that collecting rare playing cards is any much less of a hobby as collecting anything else? I don't get it when people complain about things that are out of their price range. Someone might just see an old dirty piece of leather and not care, another might see a David Morgan Bullwhip used in Raiders of the Lost Ark and pay $40,000.00 for it (as just recently happened on ebay). It's all up to the buyer.

It is true, there are a lot out there.
Many guys have TONS of these (10,000-40,000). They release them a very little bit at a time. But what is driving up the cost is all this talk on the Magic Café, at Genii and at conventions. Stop talking about them and the price will plummet, because they are *JUST* cards. The only thing giving them value is the fact that we are talking about them right now. |

You see Vegas guys use them (Asher) so people want them. The cards aren't that great.

Lots of people like them because they are very stiff. Though there are stiffer cards out there that are sold for a mere percent of the price of a Jerry's Nugget.
LOL, if you do the math......... ONE Jerry's Nugget card is approximately equal to the price of ONE FULL Bicycle deck. Jason

Just as I don't like a closeup pad that advertises the four "F's", I have no interest in a deck that advertises somebody's "nuggets".

Jerry's Nugget cards seems to have a big status among people. "Wow, those cards are expensive and not in print, then they have to be cool too, even though I don't like the back design. But let's buy some and be cool!"
It would be nice to have, but I wouldn't pay all the money that is required to buy some on eBay.

I heard the french have have a very large depot of JN cards. All I want is one deck! Only because it's a part of magic history. It sucks that guys hoard 10,000 decks. And all in all, they ARE ugly. I would never pay top dollar like that for a deck. I'd rather use the dough for a book, or a dvd or two.

So here's the lowdown in my opinion. Magicians like them cause some of our hereos swore by them (as shown in the Vernon videos, Jennings around the Castle and such). A buddy of mine who was a Castle rat back in the days asked Vernon what cards of choice he liked and he said Jerry's Nuggets (on which my buddy promptly went out and bought 6 cases of Nugget's cards). No one knows why Vernon or Jennings really liked them but themselves. Maybe just a preference of the sorts. You don't have to like them, just like you don't have to like certain magicians, sleights, or foods. It's all preference. The cards were made in vast quantities but as decks go in Vegas they changed styles and discontinued them. People started to realize that they were a decent card that was representative of an era, as opposed to all the other cards on the strip which were very similar and generic. The demand in price for the cards has gone through the roof, thanks to people like that one French guy who buys up all the Jerry's decks on eBay at like $100 a pop. Other people see this and say, "Wow, those decks must be special", when really they're just like any limited collectable. The value is what you, yourself place on it. If you want one of those decks then ask yourself at what cost are you ready to pay for it. Certain tricks are the same way. Someone would pay $100 for the secret on how to do certain cheat techniques while others wouldn't give more than $5 cause it holds no true value to them. On a lighter note, the same buddy of mine who bought the 6 cases of Jerry's back in the day, has just started selling them recently on eBay after falling on some tight times, and has used that tremendous profit to keep him and his family afloat. The cards are nicely made. I never said they were to everyone's liking, just nicely made cards that have a bit of history with them. They are not the Cadillac of cards unless you, yourself feel that way, and besides, some would take a Toyota over a Cadillac any day!

You can go get them at the Gambler's General Store in Vegas. Picked up three or four decks over the weekend. No big deal. They had them. Wanted to see what the story was and well...I'm still looking.
Cool vintage card though. But eh... S |

You sure you bought the same cards man? I wouldnt think they would sell them retail like that. Are they Blue or red, white bordered, and have the tower type thing in the middle? If they are, mind picking up me a few packs and I'll compensate you.
I like cards.

People got to be nuts. I went on Ebay and saw people bidding over $100 for a pack of these cards.

If they are so expensive and rare why would Daryl give them away with his Cardboard Comeleons packet trick?
