The Van Dokkum Cups
---------------oOo----------------- Description: These will play extremely well for formal close-up, table magic and parlour shows. The cups, which are turned from one single block of metal, are very heavy and handle like a dream. They have the time approved three bead style and, when stacked, are steady as a rock. Three one inch balls can be held easily between two of these well balanced cups. The cups will set a new standard for the serious cups and balls afficionado! You can choose Stainless Steel or Brass. The standard cup can hold a 2 1/2 inch load. Size = 2 7/8 Inch Weigt 8 oz. each cup. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are wonderful times that we are living in, especially for magician's who perform the classic cups and balls in their act. I say this because in the last few years a slew of different cup styles have been appearing on the magic market. For us consumers this is a great thing. For many years there were but a few styles and manufacturers to choose from and now we have plenty (maybe too many?). In any case, whenever I have the opportunity to aquire new cups it is always an exciting thing, especially if they are fashioned from stainless steel. While attending the WORLD MAGIC SEMINAR in Las Vegas this past month I had the good fortune to meet Auke van Dokkum in the dealers room. Auke was visiting from The Netherlands and had a table full of his custom made products, most of these items were his professional cups made for us magician types. These were a sight to see I must say. Every size you can imagine from a cup large enough to hold a small dog (no kidding!), to the smallest mini or micro size version (see photo below). Auke produces these cups with tender loving care and they are available in both stainless steel and brass. He makes everything from your standard type of cup (see photo's above) to Chop Cups and even solid cups (solid metal with no opening) that can be switched in during your routine. Try picking one of the solid cups up, they are extremely hefty. The cups I aquired were his standard cups in stainless steel. They are weighted just right and truly do handle like a dream. Every cup move you can think of is possible with this set and they are built to last a lifetime. The cups do not include balls or instructions (which is usually the case for professional sets) but do include a nice drawstring bag. As a sidenote I also picked up one of his magic wands (I collect wands so I could not resist) and it is a perfect companion to the set of cups. Stainless steel tips and weighted just righty for wand spins, who can ask for more? When I arrived home I started playing with these right away and have really fallen in love with them (well, as much as you can with a magic prop). My Mike Roger baseballs work perfectly with these bad boys so I really am a happy camper. By the way, Auke also manufactures a similar hand made baseball and offers them in various colors. While I have not personally handled these balls it is my understanding that they are of a very high quality. Judging by the cups I will take this as a given. Having said all that, I have no reservations in recommending the Van Dokkum cups to anyone looking for a good working set of cups that are not only very classy but will no doubt be an item you will want to pass on to your children. Highly recommended. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My rating: Suggested retail: Euro 300.00 / Approx $389.46 You can contact Auke van Dokkum directly at: Auke@vandokkum.nl To order direct, visit Auke van Dokkum's website at: Click here!
