Richard, could you tell us what the effect of voice print was and where it appears in print? Many thanks for your guidance.

The subject now builds list,on a sheet of paper, writing down any 4 or 5 other objects in the room, along with the target object. The target object could be thus at any position on the list, depending on the spectator's choice.....all done while--the performer's back is turned to him. Turning to face the spectator, the performer ask for the complete list and tells the spectator and identify his target object. This is then repeated with a twist in the presentation.. Richard Lyn |

Richard, I love the premise! Could you please tell us where in print this routine appears? Or was it a stand alone marketed effect?

Did anyone ever find a current source / reference for this effect?

John like you I quite don't understand why some people do post about "killer" effects and then ignore everybody who asks for a reference/source to it. It comes across as "teasing" and this irkes me. So next time you find a "killer" effect Mr. Lyn keep it for you okay?
I did some research though and it seems to be a stand-alone marketed effect by Rutledge. I still don't know though if it also appears in print somewhere else. Maybe others can help out with this. BM |

BM & John...
Rutledge's "Voice Print" (VP) was one of his "Unusuals" offers and has not been available commercially for quite some time as Ned passed on several years ago (1998)... all rights to Ned's materials and effects are now owned by his son Dane who has not released any of the rights to anyone (there have been some effects though that have been "copied" quite liberally by known magicians)... "VP" is a powerful, easy to do and easy to carry routine that uses a sneaky subtlety and gimmick... it can be easily home made in minutes with the right parts (the only challenge is finding the right "gimmick" needed)... unfortunately because I do not have the right to tip the actual workings or how to make one yourself I can't go any further than what I've written above... I've used "VP" in both standard performance settings as well as walk-around (it kills in walk-around) and have developed a few subtleties for the effect (Ted K. supposedly has a killer variation)... there are ways though, if you read the description that Richard posted above to do the same/similar effect without the Rutledge "VP" set-up... Right now about the only way to find a copy of "VP" is hoping to chance upon either someone who has one sitting in a back drawer somewhere or coming across a copy of the instructions for "VP" which gives complete construction details... either one is going to be hard to come by unfortunately... Hope this helps... Success!!! Tony Blake The Thoughtreader Õ¿Õ¬ |

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but in case anyone else was looking for this... I just noticed it is explained in the first issue of Seance by Scott Davis. Hope this helps anyone who has not found it yet.

Bob Cassidy also goes over this sort of effect in Fundamentals (under "Get the Lead Out", in case anyone is interested).

There are many examples in the literature of the basic principle. An early one can be found in Abbott's "Behind the Scenes With the Mediums." (it was a standard method in early living and dead tests)
What Ned did was to modernize the method by doing it with a pen instead of a pencil. Good thoughts, Bob |

I realise that this is an old thread but I like the sound of the effect very much.
In the ad copy snippet below Richard Lyn says "Turning to face the spectator, the performer asks for the complete list". My question is this... Does the performer ask for the physical list ie the sheet of paper or does he ask for the list to be read out?? Quote: On Apr 8, 2005, TrickyRicky wrote:

In Ned's, he asks for the list.

The performer has to see the physical list in order for this to work. There is a terrific variation of the effect, using people rather than objects, in the Ross Johnson Penguin lecture. BTW, one of the best mentalism lectures out there.

Also, check out Voice Print Plus by Ted Karmilovich, which is on his penguin lecture and in one of the Scryer books.

Yes, in case some people don't see a connection here; Bob Cassidy, and Ned are no longer with us. They along with us "still around" Ted K., Ross Johnson, Scott Davis and myself have a very common bond together through PEA.
Ned was a heck of a nice guy. Lary/TEB3/Traveler http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/teb3 |
