Hi, there, guys. I wanted to let those of you who kindly sent PM’s expressing an interest in my book that it was now – at long last – available.
Anyway, in the briefest possible space: The Book Making Money From Magic (though written from a mentalist’s point of view) is now out and is available only through Ian Rowland’s Web Site http://www.ianrowland.com (Magicians Only). I’d really appreciate your feedback. And those of you who by some nefarious means have managed to get hold of a copy ahead of the pack; I’d like to know your views, too. I want to share with each and every one of you the delight and sheer enjoyment of doing what I am doing for a living – life’s great! A lot of us are off on a Very Big Adventure. Enjoy! Best wishes, Drew McAdam |

Hi Drew..just had a quick gander..looks just the thing for me.I'm the classic "dabbler".. bit of this and that.. for friends, family and work colleagues. However..I retire in July and will have plenty of time to while away actually learning to do this stuff properly. Seems I might as well try and bump up the "coffers" as well..the old Pension Funds ain't what they used to be..I could have retired 10 years ago and been better off than I will be now!
I'll definately buy one as a "leaving pressie " to myself. cheers and beers Howard |

Howard,
Good Grief – I thought I was the oldest mentalist in the world – but what a great idea! Using the income from your skills to boost a pension. And why not? I hadn’t even considered that. I had intended it for young “dabblers” stuck in jobs from which they seemed to have no escape, yet had the very key to their freedom in their skills. All they needed was somebody to say: “This is how I did it... do the same, and you can escape!” It will still be pertinent to those who just want to add some extra income. As entertainers, our marketplace is... well, everybody! And that’s true whether you’re an office junior or taking retirement. Do, please, let me know how you get on. Very best wishes, Drew |

Ian mentioned this book to me several months ago and I am certain it will prove a valuable tool as this sharing of the way to income is something Ian is comitted to as well.
Cheers, Tom |

Very eager to get this - do you know when Ian's credit card acceptance on his site will be fixed? Thanks, Tom.

If this is as good as you promise, then it'll be what many of us need.
I already placed my order... |

Ian's site specifically states he does not have a specific date when standard CC orders will be restored. When his site host closed shop without warning this created many headaches for Ian. Not the least of which has been no email for several weeks.
The site is back up via another host and you can order using a CC. You must follow the ordering process to find the alternate way to order via CC. Just proceed as if you are ordering and it should become clear to you what to do. Cheers, Tom |

Question: How "transferable" is the information and advice given? The author hails from Scotland. How will it play in the heartland?

Gianni says: “How "transferable" is the information and advice given? The author hails from Scotland. How will it play in the heartland? “
Gianni, In Ian’s FAQ on the book – actually it’s a step-by-step manual – Ian says: “Is it just for magicians in the UK, or the US? No. It doesn't matter where you live. If you live in a country where there is at least one professional magician, then you will be able to use the information in this book.” What he’s NOT saying is that he actually sent out proof copies to numerous contacts around the globe, asked them if there was anything there that either wouldn’t fit with the customs or expressions in their country. He then made small editing change to ensure that, not only would everything make sense, (we have some really weird turns of phrase in Scotland) but that the artful techniques for such things as gaining agents and getting free press releases would work anywhere on the globe. You’ve got to give Ian his dues, he’s nothing if not thorough (which is why I gladly accepted his offer to publish the book. Best wishes, Drew Posted: Jun 19, 2005 7:12pm -------------------------------------------------- Howard, you asked: "any comments on Rick Maues Haunted Magic Book ?Ian speaks highly of it." Eh, I haven't actually read it, sorry. However, when I was looking at his site that book - and Terasabos in particular caught my eye. great minds... eh? Having said that, Ian has never givem me a bum steer yet, so I'll be buying myself a copy at some point soon! Drew Posted: Jun 19, 2005 7:19pm -------------------------------------------------- Traveler: “If this is as good as you promise, then it'll be what many of us need. I already placed my order... “ Thank you for your support. Once you get the manual, and you read how it came to be written, I’m sure you’ll appreciate that I, too, needed a book like that! Thing is, when it comes to things like getting free publicity, what a lot of people don’t realise that I trained (among other things) as a journalist. So I know how they think. I know how editors think... and if you want proof (well, for those living in the UK anyway) you will know that one of the most prestigious magazines on the market is SHE magazine. Well, check out the August edition (which comes out in July... go figure). And that’s all came about because of just one of the freelance journalists I have “in my pocket” so to speak. Easy when you know how! Nice Avatar, by the way! Best wishes, Drew |

Itay asks: “I would like to know if the book deals with career ideas for non-performers?”
In a word, “No”. I wanted to produce a foolproof blueprint for those who wanted to make enough money from their art to tell their boss where to stuff their job. That was the one, single objective. I distilled everything into a step-by-step guide, with nothing missed out and nothing added, that followed exactly what I did – what I’m still doing. Because if it works for a non-showman, short-*ss, wrinkly grandfather like me, then it will work for anybody. But to make money, you have to perform. If you’re not going to perform, then you’re not going to make money. If there IS a way to do have a career withput working, I certainly don’t know about it! Best wishes, Drew |

Drew is looking for those "who by some nefarious means have managed to get hold of a copy ahead of the pack" I guess I'd be one of them then.
The book is really a no nonsense guide to making cash off of your Art. It functions as a work book, complete with templates and exercises for you to use and work through. I have just recently started to work through the book as intended and I believe that if you follow the tasks and rules that Drew sets out you WILL be successful. How can I know this if I haven't been through the whole book? Because the book is dripping wet with common sense ideas and practicle solutions. I wish I could begin to tip the ideas in the book just so that you would understand how bloody simple the process is. Drew explains everything; your set lists (impromptu, close up, stage, trade show etc), your persona, your promotional materials, how to get work, where to get work, how to make your effects more believable, how to view your audience and yourself and your peers, I mean there is no stone unturned, the whole game is laid bare for you. One last point about the book is just how easy it is to follow, it works like this. WHAT IS GOAL ------> COMPLETE TASK -------> ACHEIVE GOAL! I'll be reporting back here in a few months, and I'll let you know just how I'm getting along. Curt. And don't sweat yourselves about those "nefarious means" Drew knows where my copy came from.
Cheese is nothing but thick milk.

Curt,
I was only kidding about the nefarious means, thing. I was just amazed that people actually had copies before it was released – though I shouldn’t have been because Ian did tell me he would be sending out proof copies to get feedback on its “workability” around the globe. (I just never listen to anything!). Ian is a kindly gent, ain’t he? But thank you for your very kind words. I desperately want people to really take this on board and start pulling in some cash for themselves, right through to where they can genuinely, and proudly refer to themselves as professional in the field of mentalism and/or magic. Best wishes, Drew |

Drew -
I'll repeat a question I asked on another forum (and haven't heard back about!): does your book expect me to become a "generalist"; that is, so that I can take the birthday party show, the Church show, the retirement party, as well as the psychic house party and the restaurant gig just so that I can market to my mentalism event? When I think of a successful mentalist I think of Salem or Kreskin, and I do not think of them showing sponge balls to my nine-year old...but all other marketing manuals that I have read say that "generalism" (in so many ways) is the only method for success... PM me, Drew, as I'd like to ask you about this... Lee |
