I saw someone else asking a similar question a couple weeks ago. Approval for access to The Learned Pig is not automated, so it can take a while sometimes. I don't know how many members the site has, but if Marko even gets half as many requests as we have members here at the Magic Café, he must be swamped!

What's the Learned Pig, and what's the web address?

I applied *twice* over a period of about 6 months. Was never approved and have heard others with simliliar stories. Great site, but I wish they would review their process for approving folks to speed it up a bit.
I even tried to e-mail the site owner to tell him that I've converted most of his e-books to pdf (and offer said pdf formatted books to him) but his e-mail just bounced.

Justin,
The Learned Pig is a magic website which has the text of many classic magic books posted online. Access is free, but restricted. Check here Paul M. |

Marko works as a pro. I think he is short in time. The website's last update was in April.
My last email from Marko about the change of the password was sent in March. |

I had exactly the same problem.
I sent the request 2 weeks ago. I sent him an email sending him regards from a common friend in Spain and I didn´t get a reply either. I think that he is just too busy. Too bad because I know his work in printing paper and I like it. Marko knows a lot about magic and he has an ezine that I would really like to see.

OK,
I am beginning to think something is wrong with Learned Pig's computer systems. I have tried twice, without acknowledgement from them to get a password. I "took" the test, there can't be anything wrong with my answers. I am a professional entertainer with twenty years experience, so it is not as if I am a rank amateur. Has anyone else been succesful in the recent past few days at Learned Pig? Let me know.

As mentionned before, the system is manual, not automatic. So if Marko's busy, then there won't be a reply. I don't recall him updating anything for a long time.

Marko is pretty busy. I've been locked out
of the site for months now due to a password problem. I think he was having problems with hackers getting access to the site through search engines. He tightened up security a few months ago. It's so tight that if you hit a wrong key, it dumps your access. It's a great site. I really miss it.

I'm an old fart, not a young hacker, but I hate to see the downward spiral of the web. Marko has every right to let whomever he wants onto his site and on his terms - I strongly believe this. Just as strongly, if not more so, I think there is an obligation to take 5 minutes and post "I will not be around for a long time and no one may EVER gain access. If you want to fill out the form, you may and some day I may get around to it, but probably not." Seriously - 5 minutes - just a courtesy to say no one is home. There seem to be many more neglected sites than active ones. It's a shame. Just my thoughts. Later.... Steve PS In all honesty, this is not about gaining access. That's easy and no hacking is required. The security is primitive, at best. |

Can we try to contact him and kindly ask him if there is any assistance we can give him to help him with this problem?

Steve
I used an incorrect term. Quote:

Just before we started having trouble with passwords, there were a few folks getting access through the search engines. Marco got a few whiney posts about this. He must have tightened security. Now if you mistype the password, it dumps your account.

I got there myself with no hacking skills, just trial and error with the url´s.
If you have the link you can get in, it is that easy. Between my last post and this one Marko has answered my request for membership and so I am very happy for this. I hope that you all got it as well. If so please post it here.

Just got my p/w also.
Tranlated all the "html-only" books to pdf so I could have them as more convenient files.
