Richard, like you I'm also a drummer.
THis question is not related to magic at all,but... Do you still play? Do you have your drumkit set up in your house? How is / was it? Tama / Pearl / DW / Vic Firth / Zyldjian / Paiste ? Regards Juan D |

Juan,
Funny you should ask. I don't have a set right now, my old one is at my sister's house because my brother-in-law plays. But I have been thinking of getting a new set for out here in Kentucky! I may just do it. My sets were almost always Gretch with Avedis Zildjian cymbols. My last was a Rogers and I have had Ludwig, Slingerland and others, but my favorite was always Gretch. (am I old fashioned?) Richard |

I was always a Ludwig/Zildjian man, myself.
Haven't played in years, though I do have a practice pad and a set of sticks to keep me sane! L. Zaslow

Oh, Richard - Gretch/Zildjian is the best! (Here's where the opposing comments start, you just watch! Those Ludwig fellow, hah! <grin>)

Another drummer here.
Must be a "gotta keep my hands busy" thing. Like snushy, I used mostly Ludwig/Zildjian. In high school I was a music major, I could not think of anything else to major in at the time. I have not played in years though.

Am I the only guy who loves the stomping new sound of DW Drum kits?
Now that I think about it... Same as my mentalism, I've always strived for a minimalistic drum kit : 2 toms, a piccolo snare, 2 crash cymbals , 2 splashes and 1 China and my lovely Ride Cymbal of course. Looks pretty cool on stage (just like me!) Hey!, this is not the Drummers Caffe! Back to practicing my Paradiddles ... errr... my one hand switch... Sorry for all the confussion |

I play a massive acoustic/electric style kit. Take a look at danny carey's from tool and you will know what I mean. Yamaha acouttic drums, zildjian cymbols, and a roland v-pro electronic kit. its totally massive. I think I got in over my head. haha. the yamaha oak kits are amazing.

Another drummer here. I'm a pearl man myself for kits, although my baby in high school was a gnarly old set of yamaha tenors that I marched with for four years. My back still hurts from them, and of course they get a new lightwight set the year after I graduate. Guess that's why I like impromtu magic...I got tired of caring stuff around.

Richard but man, I really miss playing! |

Roto Toms???
And you admit this in public??? ;) Next time you're in New Orleans and have a free evening/late night, drop me a line and come sit in with my band.
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

I am on vacation here in Boston. Last night I had dinner at my sister-in-laws. We took a walk and she pointed out a business - Zildjian! I am going there this morning to check it out.
I have a very small Pearl kit. I would like to get one of those new Gretch kits. The dreums are very big and loud. My favorite drum...my 25 year old 6" ludwig maple snare. I heard it on a contemporary christian cd (Millenium III), fell in love with the sound, emailed the drummer and after some back and forth he sold it to me. It's truly the BEST drum I have ever owned. Quin,
Sorry about that! It was a long time ago! John, Yes, the vintage drums are wonderful. Last week I was on the East Coast doing a show and the drummer with the band had a set of blue sparkle Gretch (about 1965) just like my old set! They sounded better than ever! Richard |

WOW Mr. Osterind, I had forgotten you mentioned you used to be a drummer. I also have been playing; since grade 8 I think. I've only gone through a few kits over the years; Lugdwig, then Pearl, then Tama, then PDP, then PDP, and still PDP (Pacific Coast). INCREDIBLE sounding drums. For cymbals, I've been a very faithful Zildgian guy all my life. Just about to order a complete set of the 'A' series, plus possibly a couple 'K'.
I'm actually teaching drums and guitar now, and have been for several months. If you are serious about purchasing another set, I HIGHLY recommend you check out PDP or DW. PDP is the entry level of DW, but sound INCREDIBLE. RJ |
