Hi again, Mr. Osterlind
I'm just curious, the force where you "dribble" (please excuse my english) through the cards towards the spectator, pause for a beat, then continue through the rest of the cards - has it ever been noticed that you first of all pause, second of all that you look? As a magician, I saw it and thought "Wow, that was obvious", but then - I am a magician, and we do tend to over-analyze. A spec would naturally look at the cards, and not see that you are looking - if I'm right Have you ever tried the same approach as David Blaine does in his Street Magic Special, where the impression is that the cards are spread in an even pace, but still you only remember one card? What do you think about that method? With great respect, Samuel

Don't pause. Just remember the one that sticks out to you most and 90% of the time its the same as theirs. Fish for the answer. Witout giving away that you don't yet know. And have an out in the routine in case you miss. Like the ID in your back pocket. Or learn a stack.

On the video I was more deliberate so as to make sure the force worked. When I do it in real shows I tend to do it smoother. But most people never noticed that.
David Blaine used a different method than a force card. No, don't worry about a small break. The timing is the thing. If you catch someone off guard, they won't know what you did. If you have to fish for the answer, you can't do the routines I did. Richard |

Gotcha, I don't know the routines you did. When I use this effect, or a fan force, I always have some kind of an out. I can't get it every time. Most of the time it turns out in the way I planed it. But I feel that any effect that relies on forced chance can come out other than intended. What book or dvd is your version of the dribble force covered in?

Stuart,
I really don't know! I'm sure it is somewhere, probably a lot of places, but I just started doing it. It just seemed logical. As I said, I am certainly not taking any credit as I'm sure it has appeared in dozens of places and I probably read it long ago. Probably a bunch of card guys will chime in here and give some references. Richard |

I am reading right now "Chan Canasta, A Remarkable Man Volume 1" by David Britland....there is a review of Riffle Thought Force, because Canasta used it a lot, that started with EXPERT AT THE CARD TABLE by Erdnase, I think the first book where this force appeared....
Stuart, if you don't have this book I can write you the references of this force! Ah Richard, I am reading "the cards in pockets effects" by Canasta! Thank YOU for giving me this reference, I love this effect! Giacomo |
