Hi, I was thinking about all the effects I can and do perform and I realised that they all have either double or triple lifts involved including the colour monte(of a sort)
Could anyone put together a short routine, say four/five tricks without using a double/triple lift?

I'm rather certain that hundreds of us could, have, and do from time to time. Not just 4 or 5 but dozens and dozens of effects as well.

Easily. As a matter of fact most of the tricks I use don't even utilise a double.
Card in the matchbook, card under tablecloth, card under glass, signed cards in the hands, card on the ceiling, card to wallet.
I guess the real point is that the double lift, while a great move, is no where near essential to great card magic.

If you actually know 'hundreds' of card effects more power to you.

If you own 30 dvds on card magic, then you would know about 300 magic tricks with different techniques. DL is such a basic technique that I'm sure it's a common move with cardicians. I have about 80 dvds, so I think I really do see hundreds of DL card effects incoperate into the effects.

I don't see why you wouldnt want to use the double lift. Its so deceptive, but if you really do want a non dl routine, I would pick up Easy To Master Card Miracles by Michael Ammar. A great percentage of the effects taught on these dvds do not require the dl. Tricks like Untouched by Daryl and Your Signed Card by Bro. John Hamman.

I could easily create a short routine of four tricks that don't use a double lift.
1. Biddle Trick
2. Card To Wallet
3. Color Changing Deck
4. My Ungimmicked Invisible Deck Trick

My short routine would include:
- card to wallet
- I Should have done that myself (bill Malone)
- Queens out of control (packet trick)
- Out of this world

Ok, guess I didn't think hard enough! As I can't palm the 'card to' effects just don't register!

You can do entire ACR without a double lift. Just sitting here I remembered 10 sleights in an ACR that don't use DLs.
I think anything accomplished by a double lift can somehow be accomplished without one... that's my theory.

A cleverly timed, and well executed, Top Change can replace a DL most of the time.

If you want good card magic without using a Double Lift at all, look at Eugene Burger's work. He came for a lecture a few months ago and mentioned that he never performs a Double Lift. It just doesn't look natural to him.

The double lift is only one sleight out of a list of thousands .there are huge amounts of effects that can be obtained without it.even tricks that utilise it can be done without it- use a top change!
and as for the routine...
1.4 ace triumph
2.asher twist (with the 4 aces) to show them turning over one at a time.
3.david blaines ace shake.
so on and so forth...
A mistake is only a mistake if you do not learn from it.
