Jeff's alleged lack of judgment did not show up later in life, as Magiguy claims. It began to show up as early as 1983. That was 25 years ago.

I can say this without libel, as always I never write a check that I can't cash with my ***. Let me tell you a little about Mr. Busby. During the fight over the PF trademark and after most of the dust had settled, I wrote Jeff. The content of the email was an offer to Jeff to make right on the Brau notebook scandal and get everyone's monies back to him and get his name cleared of that mess. This was my proposal.... I do a run of Paul Fox cups to his specs and we release them as a joint venture under both the RNT II Name but as Jeff Busby PF cups. RNT II would pay for all costs, material labor and shipping, any purchases of the cups would go into a trust account with an attorney and then people with claims could come forward. After the completion of the promotion Jeff could walk away with a better name from the scandal and we even offered to just give the TM back to him afterward, but Jeff had to show a sign of good faith to repay those who did not get the notebooks. Jeff's response to RNT II, not a word. However, he did put in writ a long letter to the TM division that we were attempting to extort the use of his name in trade for the TM being returned to him. I mean WTF? You hold your hand out to someone who is 99.9% under and they bite you like that. Jeff's illness? Karma baby! Past bad judgments? He still continues to lie and manipulate the truth and people at their expense. He had a free ride and chance to make things right and he chose to just stick it to everyone. Now Jeff will probably lurk as he does other forums, which are true the same way he still follows eBay ads like a bad penny, and yes we have emails from Jeff regarding auctions. While no one wishes ill on anyone or shouldn't at least, I have no sympathy for those who chose to have the option to make a wrong right, especially when another company who had faith in him too was willing to do it at no cost to himself. After the ******** letter he wrote the TM association about extortion, he can roll his sorry fanny right down the highway to hell and burn there. Otherwise I think he's just a Swell guy <not>. The letter is still on public file with the TM dept. for the public, so I have validity and proof behind my post. Sorry guys and gals, we did try to help get the long lost $$ recovered for the notebooks, but Mr. Busby just didn't want to be a human being. Jake Quote:

I think its hilarious that, several years ago, Busby got EBay to remove my aluminum Ravel "super cups" from auction because he felt they resembled the PF design...LOL!
Seriously, I got VERO'd :rotf: |

Please don't misunderstand me. My point wasn't meant to defend Busby. I absolutely don't condone his behavior or label him a good guy, but I do appreciate his early contributions. Jake, Bill,... I hate to see that you two (of all people) were burned so badly. Sorry if I inadvertantly re-opened any wounds. Thanks for sharing a bit of the history.

Karma works both ways.
The guy is is broke, in a wheelchair, and ill. Perhaps it's time to let him be. |

Not only does Karma work both ways it can bite you in the *** more than once. I don't worry about Karma as it does not play in line with my religious beliefs, but Busby is certainly no different now then when he was out of his wheelchair when his shenanigans began. While I'm slow to ship, Busby Never shipped according to everyone that paid for their notebooks, then he had a chance to make things right and he turned it into an attempt to extort the use of his name??? Leave him be? After they throw the first shovel of dirt, maybe.

Without a doubt. I seen/read a write-up that he did on Ebay years ago. It was for a Hugard's Testimonial program. This piece usually sells for about $20 bucks. Busby had written such a great piece, it sold for $200+. I was trully impressed. What he did to people selling used Paul Fox cups is another story.

Who knows? Maybe he had some private problems years back and had a difficulty getting over them?
I loved everything I bought from him and I got delivered. Now some serious magicians like Pete Biro who know better than me (and are fair persons) may have a more valid opinion based on negative experiences and facts. I just felt that I had to positively testify about my experience as I'm weary about public linching, even of guilty persons.

I was told way back in 1983 to not trust Busby when I met him at the what was then known as the Desert Magic Seminar When it was being held at the original Aladin Hotel and Casino. I soon learned why I was told that when I heard of the problems magicians were having with Busby. He never changed from that and never will.

Jeff was one of the great minds in magic. He let his diabetes get out of control, and that's what finished him, basically. He was one of the early members of MicroMagicCon. He had the mistaken idea that if he was doing research on something, he should be the only person who was allowed to publish about it. That's why he went off on a tear when John Booth published his Erdnase book.
If you have Punx's Farewell Performance, (English version) on page 74, there is a series of footnotes in which Craige and I took advantage of the friction between Jeff and Rev. Booth. These say: Don't forget The Expert at the Card Table by Erdnase CMSjr You mean Milton Franklin Andrews JB CMSjr are Craige Snader's initials. So who was JB? Was it Jeff Busby? Was it John Booth? Answer: Neither. it was Jim Beam.

" Jeff Busby is actually quite ill these days. Despite his lack of judgement later in life, I prefer to remember him for his most positive contributions." I agree with everything what Magiguy has written about Jeff Busby! |

In light of the recent listing of Paul Fox cups that ran, apparently uncontested, for the full listing period on Ebay it looks like Mr. Busby is no longer vexing Ebay sellers selling their PF wares.

I think Busby was stopped awhile back from stopping items using the words Paul Fox on Ebay. You may find the answer here in a search or more likely on the Genii Forum. I forget the guy's name, but he contacted Ebay with facts and had him stopped. The deatils are ther on the net, somewhere.

The incident that took Jeff down may not have involved Paul Fox items. According to a friend of mine who is a famous performer who'd had some material published by Jeff, the performer put some of his material on eBay. According to this performer, he got an e-mail from eBay explaining that they had a protest from Jeff, stating that "Jeff owned (performer's name)."
The performer wrote back "Like HELL he does. I AM (peformer's name)." That basically took the wind out of Jeff's sails. He was lucky that he did not get sued for unfair restraint of trade.

I don't really get why folks still enjoy taking a few more kicks at an ill, diabetic old man in a wheelchair.
Read "The Secret of the Palmetto's" and observe that Busby was a writer and thinker who in his day was among the best to be found anywhere. He did lots wrong, and has paid for it. Taking "yet another" kick at the guy accomplishes nothing.......it actually says more about the person posting than it does about Busby. |

Busby is still lurking on eBay and even on this forum, doing his best to make people miserable.
I did read The Secret of the Palmettos and found it to be a self-effacing puff job that revealed little other than Busby's bitterness at Ed Marlo.
