...I spoke to Peter Nardi today and he explained that the 'effect' wasn't going to be given out before the release date and has asked me NOT to pass-on the 'the-why's-and-the-where-for's either.

Welcome to the immoral world of magic marketing. Things are sold on hype, and dealers exploit the whimsical nature of amateurs who have to have 'the newest thing.' As far as magic ads go, this is perhaps a step in the right direction -- at least they're not lying to you about what you get! They're simply riding the hype-factor and, as devil's advocaat suggests, it will probably sell quickly.

Things like this bring a bittersweet smile to my face every time.
