Hi Jade,
Your core act plays both intimate settings as well as much larger venues. (not even counting when you add illusions) Was this something you sought or did it just evolve that way? What are the elements which allow for this bredth of venue opportunity? Cheers, Tom |

My original goal was to put together an act to work the Castle. That happens to be a room perfect for a cabaret act. And that's how my core act (I'm assuming you mean my Chinese Act, right?) came about.
I do try to play bigger when I'm on a larger stage (hand and body gestures, bigger steps) and smaller when I'm on a cramped stage. While on a larger stage, I try to pull in the side curtains to create a more intimate space and light only the areas I need and not the entire stage which would minimize me. Thanks for asking Tom! That is what SHOULD have happened at the IBM in Reno... some of the acts were SMALL on a HUGE stage... Goldfinger and Dove for example... I was told it was awful (stage size for their act) Had you been there, perhaps the side wings would have been brought in.
Remember at FISM when I told you "Don't just accept the back curtain they give you... ask for one the color that works for your act."

Same thing happened at the San Diego IBM. The stage acts, even the illusion acts, were lost on a cavernous stage. The one exception was the most seasoned pro in the bunch, Balantine. He worked in front of the closed curtain and came across as larger than any of the other acts because of it.
Thanks for your reply, Jade. Cheers, Tom |
