I just want to add a rather biased, sexist comment which some may agree:
"I predict if you are a lady magician, you would think twice of perfoming it" This is one of those that in my opinion, I make sure I take the necessary precautions. Well perhaps you could explore the bulb in a clear plastic bag, and patter around the fact that nothing is between you and the bulb and u're not too sure if the bulb shatters. I also think the plastic gives (due to the creases) some camouflage towards hiding the gimmick |

I can't seem to get the thing to work reliably. Maybe my hands are too big, but while holding the bulb, the part of my fingers that need to do the work are just too weak to work the mechanism. I can't seem to squeeze any harder. Is it just me, or does anybody else have this problem and can offer a solution?
Thanks. |

It took me a few tries to get the gimmick in the right position in my hand while still holding the bulb naturally. For me, it was like developing my coin palm, kind of hard to get the right spot, but once you do, it's pretty easy. To make the effect a little easier to do with a group in fairly close proximity, I rigged mine to also use a P*** so that I could end clean. On stage, I just drop the gimmick with the base of the bulb left in my hand. I usually have a large silk spread out on the floor in front me for the stage version. For the "club" version, I have 2 people up with me holding the corners of the large silk to catch the pieces.

In the theory discussion on one of my DVDs, I explain my comedy presentation for the exploding lightbulb effect using Yigal Mesika's prop. I absolutely love the gimmick and have had no problems with it.

I've had this for several years and just love it. And I do it close-up. I start off with a self-lighting bulb, then place the bulb into a ziploc bag so that there is no way for anything to "lite" the bulb. You can just do the exploding bulb in a ziploc bag, but people see it coming. By using the lighting bulb first and the baggy as a way to isolalte the bulb, the explosion is a surprise.

I got one of these used (from someone here), and I would say that it can be a bit tricky to work, but I think with more practice it would get easier.
Besides, there's almost no gimmick I know of that doesn't seem to require a little tweaking or something to work better for me. A little powdered graphite helped too. Overall, not bad. Very easy to ditch if you have a topit ! (What isn't ? lol .. I just bought a JSB topit last weekend at a lecture, I'm dying to see if my wife can put it in)
Just hanging out with the rest of my fellow dregs.
