After a year and a half of work on Aliun, Ellusionist has decided not to release the illusion. I know this will come as a disappointment to many, but whatever you are feeling could be multiplied several times for the team at Ellusionist... we were looking forward to the release and put countless hours into the project. The Reason As the project neared completion we became aware of a feature with Aliun that might compromise the safety of the person using it. Before any Ellusionist-produced product is released, it is first evaluated by our entire staff in a physical, sit-down meeting. While primarily for the purpose of creative improvement, these meetings also exist to ensure quality and, most importantly, safety. During this period, we play devil's advocate vehemently and we are very hard on the product. A member of our team introduced a concern we had not thought of before in regards to safety and a certain mechanical part of the device. We were somewhat astounded that we had not thought of this issue before, and I immediately made several calls. We found that this piece did possess the unlikely yet present potential to cause physical harm to the person using it. Although it was unlikely (which is why we hadn't thought of it initially) it was still possible. After a final recent development meeting with our creative staff, Ellusionist has chosen not to release the effect. The absolute last thing I would want to see is one of our members or customers hurt by a mechanical device that we created— no effect, no matter how amazing it is, is worth that risk. In addition, our legal counsel could not green-light the project with a clear conscience. Having to make that call was extremely hard for us, and tempers flared in the meeting as we realized we could not release Aliun after all of our hard work. Our apologies to all of our members, clients, and to the magic community who were expecting a great levitation to be released shortly. Aliun is great, no question about it, but safety must take a front seat to everything and anything else. All I can say is that we are as disappointed as you may be, but we are moving on with many, many great ideas and products to be released in the coming weeks. Quite a long message for saying nothing, actually. Brad is saying 4 times the same thing : they don't release it because it could be flammable.
This news sucks big time, why didn't he said this earlier??? If they really worked on it for countless hours a solution would have been found. Big Dissapointment!! |

What a total bummer.... I wonder if they have any performance footage of Aliun? It would be nice to see Aliun in works "performance footage"?

Given that playing cards might cause paper cuts and when handled by laymen might then transmit diseases, perhaps that line of thought might prevent the next card trick release as well. And please, don't even think about the possible consequences of swallowing coins or...

Maybe with much better looking levitations out there now days, maybe they relised people would not want to pay the alleged high price for it.
Or maybe it was just a big wind up from the beginning. Who knows.... |

You know this is not Ellusionist fault. Brad was very professional and ethical by making this decision. As a business owner I can and understand his point of view.
The problem is the people in this society who has taken advantages of their rights and others and sue you for nothing. I can already see hundreds of parents calling their lawyers to sue Ellusionist because their stupid kid broke an arm playing with his Aliun. Before all of you criticize others ethical business decisions, why don't you take a look to your own childish comments and posts in this thread. It seems that a lot of you have no idea about the risks and disadvantages of running a business in this country. You should be thankfull to Brad and his company for at least trying to come up with quality products for all of us. Joaquin |

It is possible that it could be a ruse by ellusionist because they know that Icarus Effect and Jabob Spinneys levitations are much superior to Aliun and that it would not sell as well as they would like it to. Although I could be just talking out of my ****.
Find out what you cannot do.., Then go and do it!

I think it is very possible. I honestly don't believe you can work on something for a year and a half without realising a possible safety risk.

A philosophical question:
Is it still exposure to say how this specifically is safely unsound? General observation: After viewing the demo, I can see how someone might lose their balance from 2 inches in the air and fall to their death. |

FWIW...give Brad the benefit of the doubt here, folks. Without having seen the demo or anything of the sort, you've got to believe that he and his team have put a nice amount of time and money into this levitation, an investment that he apparently will not recover. To pull it at the last minute indicates that his concerns are real.
And as for whether alternate levitations are better, I have no idea...but I think we all know that plenty of things are sent to market without concern over whether they are truly superior to competing products.

Make the purchaser sign a waver. I mean its done with large scale "death" illusions.... so why not the same thing here protecting the manufacturer against liability?

Dumb. I just watched the video. Looks just like the elevator, which is only $90, not 1500.

Surely they could show what the risk is to their customers as its been exposed on all the patent sites. they could sigh a contract saying they are not responsible for injury or something like that.
You and Bill do make a good point, but I still believe the real reason for not releasing this is due to better levs available now and a much cheaper price. |
