Stolen Cards is a specific effect marketed by Lennart Green. To the best of my knowledge, a Kaleidoscope deck is a combination of 52 different back designs that could be used in a variety of ways.
Lennat does a nice presentation of his Stolen Cards effect on Volume 7 of "Green Lite" DVD. |

Stolen Cards is basically an expensive version of Gemini Twins.
Two pediction cards are inserted in the deck and match the cut-to cards. Posted: Dec 24, 2005 11:42am Sorry - prediction |

I used the search function so I don't make another thread for the same topic.
There are actually two types of Kaleidoscope Card. The first one is produced by Hampton Ridge Magic and said to have over 25 different back designs. The second one is by Royal Magic, this is the one I have. Even it is said to have over 25 different back designs, it actually has 50 different designs, with two other designs for the reveal part. I actually wanted to have the one from Hampton Ridge too but Penguin doesn't have it and I am not sure if they're in Poker or Bridge Size. Different than Lennart's Stolen Cards, this deck has various designs not from casinos but various company brands. I'm not sure what companies they are. Apart from the excellent variety of designs, I dislike the 4 reveal cards, they're just regular red and blue Bicycle cards. I'm not sure if it's just me or these are pretty obvious amongst the other cards in the deck. It could give more heat when we are doing the presentation before they replace the key cards. So I'm looking for two pair of cards but I don't know where to go. Now, Rainbow Deck, as far as I know, it's just a regular Bicycle deck with different color/design on the back design. BUT, some shops put "Multicolor Deck" as "Rainbow Deck" that could confuse customers. Hope this explanation helps for those who are looking for more info. Kaleidoscope Deck itself is a self-working and no sleight needed just like Stolen Cards.

Btw, I just found out that my deck actually only has 44 cards. Not sure if it's the complete setting or some error in packaging it.
And, perhaps, this thread should be moved to other sub-forum, because these decks are special decks or decks that are self-working.

If you like the idea of using a rainbow deck for the Gemini Twins check out Quintuplicate Coincidence that was marketed by Scotty York. It was put out many years before Green's stolen cards b.t.w. You can get Quintupicate Coincidence from Denny&Lee's. Denny is the only dealer that sells the Scotty York line of magic products.

Yeah I saw the one in Daryl's website. Some of the cards have a hole in the center, proving that they're used casino cards.
I'm checking on Quintuplicate Coincidence.

I just bought a trick called, Rainbow Match. It mentions Gemini Twins from Fulves; More Self Working Card Tricks.
It this trick the same or close to the one mentioned here, Quintuplicate Coincidence? |

Quintuplicate Coincidence is the name that Scotty York gave to Dave Van Vranken's effect. Yes Dave's effect is his version of Fulves Gemini Twins done with a Rainbow Deck.

Stolen Cards is my favorite effect of this type. I make my own decks from uncancelled casino and advertising cards I've collected over the years. In addition, the kicker ending of the stopped at cards being say, the black kings, and all of the others being say ,the two of hearts, is a real shock to the spectators.

Quintuplicate Coincidence is defo the way to go in this type of effect.
I mananged to reproduce it with brand new casino cards which looks a bit better than the cut ones. The repetition of some same casinos' backs in QC (as opposed to all different in Stolen) deals with the reveal discrepancy in the latter. My reveal deals with the jacks and aces of clubs and spades adding a sixth coincidence to the routine as two Black Jack hands emerge! Love it. |

These cards appear to be "generic" Casino names I've never heard of, so I don't know if they are associated with any real casinos. The new version has a bigger variety of regular (non-casino) cards than the old--some even appeared to be out a Bike Rainbow deck, but there is still a nice selection of brand trademark cards like Coca-cola, Jack Daniels, Nascar, etc. Cheers

This is a killer effect. I close my shows at the Magic Castle with it.
Penguin sells a chameleon deck for around $6.00 that provides the same effect but in bridge size.

Just to add to this thread.
Tony Chris also has a version of a kaleidoscope deck called "The Grunge Kaleidoscope Deck". You can find it here: http://tonychris.com/productspage.html Description: EFFECT: The magician introduces a deck of cards and shows all the backs to be completely different patterns of a grunge nature. He explains that he is a bit of a “Goth” and loves all art that is grunge and Goth in nature so he has assembled an entire deck of a kaleidoscope cards from many different grunge art decks. He explains that he has made a prediction of things to come and introduces a card which is the king of hearts. It is placed face up on the performing area. He now takes the deck and starts to deal cards one at a time face down on the performance surface and asks the spectator to call out stop at any time. Once the spectator has indicated where to stop, the king of hearts is place face up at that exact location and the deck is squared up. The deck is now spread and the face up king of hearts card along with the random card that has fallen on top of it is removed. Now a miracle will happen as the king of hearts is turned over to reveal that its back design matches the random face down card. He explains that these are the only two cards in the entire deck with the same backs. Now he turns over the king of hearts again face up and also turns the face down random card over to reveal that it is the king of diamonds. He explains that the king of hearts seems to have found his brother. Now for the third and final shocking moment as the rest of the deck is spread face up and it is seen that each and every card is the ace of spades thus ending a very colorful and powerful card prediction effect. I love this effect as it is very easy to do and has a great look to it. People really like that it is not a typical pack of playing cards, so it draws them in. yes, it another pack to carry with you, but I actually keep this one at work in my desk drawer. NO! Not that desk drawer where you don't use the magic... This one gets use for sure! He supplies you with a couple versions of cards to use which I really love. Any effect that you can do again with a different outcome is nice. It is also an instant reset if that is a plus for you. I have found that people like looking through the cards after the effect because they truly do have a artistic look. Well, they don't just look like art; they are! The faces of the cards are unique as well. They have a sort of Renaissance look to them. I believe (don't quote me) that these are from Card Shark (Christian Schenk, in Germany). As in all his effects, Tony is sure to credit everyone that he can. For Kaleidoscope, he was unable to find a source of origin. On his other effects, he even mentions who developed the moves so I am 100% confident that he has done his best to find out. Overall, this effect is a winner in my book. This would be a great effect for someone new to magic. It is easy, but since it isn't with your standard card deck, it is more magical and more intriguing to an audience. A lot of people cringe when they see you bring out a deck of cards (Here we go, another "card" trick from Mike). That is my opinion of course. If I had some mad card flinging, flipping, skills... They may be more imporessed and ready for more. That's not me. Now, Tony does mention that there is a standard "Kaleidoscope Cards" set-up where you have 2 cards. I have not researched this, but I know Tony would be more than happy to assist if need be. I just haven't asked yet. I will do so soon. |
