Does anyone have a review of David Regal's There and Back effect. I tried a search but nothing comes up, thanks.
A borrowed ring placed under an inverted drinking glass vanishes completely and re-appears under a second drinking glass a distance away. You get a devious magical device that effortlessly and invisibly moves a borrowed finger ring or marked coin from one place to another. How sneaky is There & Back? When David explains the method to magicians and then performs it, they are fooled a second time — even after they know the secret! David has used this outstanding routine to close his Magic Castle shows for many years and Paul Daniels performed it on one of his TV specials in England. Comes with photo-illustrated instructions and a custom made prop, manufactured specifically for this routine. Use any drinking glasses. |

You might want to see him perform it on his DVD.
The method is clever. I have one. Best off if you are seated. You keep his pad under your normal close up pad. It is sneaky but not 100% invisible...THAT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE! |

Didn't Paul Daniels use this once? If memory serves me correctly, his version was pretty invisible.

I saw David perform this "live" at one of his lectures. It is very deceptive. As I remember, David used two wine glasses...so yes, any kind of glass will work.

I have seen the effect and I liked it very much.
Looked impossible first time I saw it. |

To me, invisible would mean no opaque cover at all.
It is still an awesome trick and well worth the investment. |

Yes, I love this effect and David Regal's three-volume set Tricks! The Magic Of David Regal. BTW, There and Back is in vol. one as I'm going to use include this wonderful effect this holidays!

I have it and have been working with it for a while now, seated would be best, but have not ran into any problems yet using it in my stand up shows.

Are you all speaking of the commercial one or did you make it yourself? I too think it's an awesome effect. I made one after watching the DVD but when the commercial version came out I thought "well if the one I made is good and a fooler, the commercial one must be great". I couldn't believe it. The commercial one looks like it should have been the "exposed" version David used on his DVD.
I love David Regal and think he is VERY creative and I have done and continue to do many effects from his series of DVD's but it's been a while since I felt like I wasted that much money on something that was so useless. It's perfect trick to perform if the lights go out and you are just explaining what is happening My advice, if you want to do this trick,(it is a good one) get the DVD and make your own special something. It's not difficult and you can make a much better one than the commercial unit. I am of course assuming that they are all the same and haven't been improved since I bought mine some months back. That's why I asked the question at the beginning. If the raves are coming from the commercial release than it must have been improved. The one I have is far from a fooler and just gives away the method to a great trick. I still use the one I made. Bobby |

Mine is covered with stars in space. Is that the one you received when you bought it? I bought mine recently but I haven't tried it out on anyone yet.

I don't know about the commercial version, but I have the dvd and the trick did indeed fool me when I saw it. I watched it a few times too.
Pros: It is a strong trick Pretty easy to do No damage or risk to the ring Cons: Requires a table and isn't something you'd carry around with you If done the way David does it, you'll also need other bulky things like 2 wine glasses, and a close-up pad. You'll want to develop a routine for it so it doesn't just end up being a quick trick and over in 10 seconds. I highly recommend his dvd set. It's fantastic. |

I think it is a very clever idea but not something most people will use. It is just not that practical for any situation other than a closeup show. (like on L&L videos or the closeup rooms at the magic castle)
Really, how many working magicians get to do formal closeup shows at a nice felt covered magic table? None that I know personally. It is walkaround, table hopping, bar, parlor, or stage. None of those are practical for this effect. Maybe you could use it in a corporate booth but I doubt it with all the props required.
