Hi all, hope someone out there is able to help me out here. I am on the hunt for a Wakeling Sawing. Now, I am fully aware that they are available from one dealer for about $7000 US. Are there any other reputable builders out there curently specializing in this effect? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not that I know, but you might want to check out http://www.themagicauction.com
They might have something like that that is used and then again cheaper. |

Correct link is http://www.magicauction.com - There is one for sale built by John Gaughan.
Also Wellington (www.wellingtonent.com) makes a good version. |

John Gaughan built the original, so he would be the guy I would go to if I wanted one.

True enough about John building the first one. But there is nothing wrong with Wellington's and it is authorized.

The one on the Magic Auction is John Taylor's. It was built by Gaughan for Peter Reveen.

Darn good illusion, my favourite sawing now. Kalin and Ginger do a great job with it in their show.

I built mine from the plans in the Steinmeyer book. It turned out great. The plans are perfect. One thing to keep in mind is the amount of work that goes into a piece like this. It took me several months to finish mine. A full time builder could produce one much faster, but you are paying for labor, supplies, and time. If you are looking for a cheaper price, a used prop from an authorized builder is probably the way to go. I also saw Chuck Jones' up close and he has added some nice touches. I know he built his, he may be able to build one for you.

The plans really are great and one should be able to build a nice unit. Mine was built by a cabinet maker and it turned out really well. Mine was unfortunately destroyed in a fire a few years back.
Its definitely a baffling illusion but one that relies solely on presentation. Presentation is always important but in this case, it must be top-notch to really sell it, its an easily ruined illusion.

It is by far my favorite sawing. I got the plans from the Wakeling book which is a must have book anyway.
In looking on the Magic Auction over time, I have seen those who have taken the plans and built it out of other materials. There was one that was sheet metal, and another that was some fluorescent material for a theme show. But I think the wooden cabinet is by far the best. If you need a resource for getting the bindings and straps, your best bet is to go through Cannon's Escapes. They have them already made. http://www.cannonsgreatescapes.com/Shopp......ase.html |

Yes, the Wakeling Sawing is a Strong Illusion once you present it correctly! I am working on building a "Modern Wakeling Sawing" I will phase out my wood sawing this summer as I am having The Death Saw Sawing Built like the one Copperfield did! That's the only sawing that I think can replace the Wakeling sawing!

I personally believe that Crystal Sawing from the Pendragons is better than the Wakeling version, don't you think? I would like to perform it but it is really expensive!

That relies a lot on what you are looking for in a sawing, not to mention who you are as a performer. Both are amazing in their own right and anyone should be proud to own/perform either.

The crystal sawing is a nice illusion...I personally love the Wakeling sawing because your presentation is what makes it or breaks it. As for the crystal sawing again very nice! now what happens when you incorporate the 2 of them into one illusion? Now think about THAT!!!!! Just some food for thought!
