Just to toss in, Elmsley's Fate's Datebook is in the Collected work of Alex Elmsley V2 as well as the Lake Tahoe DVDs.

The whole point of the diary effect I devised was that it doesn't use a deck of cards- just the prediction. You can watch my entire presentation of it at the YouTube link at the bottom of my signature below.

Still waiting for someone to mention Aldo Colombini's approach. It meets virtually all of Cirrus' criteria. I think I'll wait a bit before revealing where Aldo published it.
As far as the others mentioned they are all excellent. Mr. Cassidy, your presentation is phenomenaL. That said, of the ones I have performed, "Fate" by Simon Aronson is simply wicked. Is it the best? There is no such thing, but, "Fate" is definitely not a dark horse in the race. Merry Christmas, Vlad |

I concur, Vlad. Fate is a mainstay in my repertoire, although I have 'modded' it to use a n**m*l d**k, as opposed to the as-written version. You can create a real 'moment' with this effect.....love it!
Have you tried 'Up The Ante' yet?? The ultimate gambling demo....a self-working wonder! See the reviews here on the cafe.

I have to go with Bob Cassidy's Chronologue.
I've carried it in my pocket for years and years. It's instant reset, very compact, no pack of cards and very, very strong magic. It kills! Brilliant!
Warmest regards

Bob Cassidy's approach is clean, very practical, and has built-in idiot proofing (good for me!)
Aronson's approach in Birthday Card is diabolically brilliant in method, but the crucial prop is too weird for my taste. It just doesn't seem like anything anyone has ever seen before, it calls too much attention to itself.

Check out John Morgan's diary effect from John Luka's LINT book. You'll need to get TFTBOD's. It's very strong.

I have just released an ebook (Spelling Deck) with six tricks. One of the tricks is Diary effect.
Please check out the demo of my "Kovax Diary" trick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs39jiXOgXg EFFECT The magician introduces a pocket diary and a deck of cards. The cards have numbers from 1 to 52 on their backs, and the diary is filled with the names of playing cards. The performer makes a prediction. The spectator selects two cards randomly from the deck. The numbers on the backs of the cards generate a month and a day. The card written next to the randomly generated date is the same as the performer’s prediction. You can use the same deck for an ACAAN trick as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPUYxf3Gldg Kind regards, Jozsef Kovacs |

Can't go wrong with Simon Aronson's work on the birthday plot.

After searching high and low for a copy of Paul Green's Fortune Teller's Book of Days (and coming to the conclusion that it was no longer being marketed and therefore no longer readily available) I finally bought three different items allowing me to perform the birthday effect in either of two different ways:
Firstly, I bought a hardcopy version of Arilene B. Clark’s Fortune Telling Birthday Book. This is a pocket sized 5 x 7 inch book in a smart red cover, originating in the 1930's, with 4 dates to a double page spread and each date having a small fortune-teller's description of the person whose birthday falls on that day and sufficient space to hand write the name of a card. These were available supposedly used but in pristine condition for less than £4 from a large online bookseller. Fantastic bargain! Secondly, from a well-known online auction site I also bought a copy of John Luka's LINT book for £25, mainly to read up on John Morgan's diary effect (mentioned higher up in this thread). You don't actually *need* to own an original copy of Paul Green's Fortune Teller's Book of Days to perform John Morgan's diary effect, especially if you already own a copy of a book similar to Arilene B. Clark's Fortune Telling Birthday Book and you are prepared to put in a little effort of your own to fill out the days. Finally, I bought the Stage format of Bob Miller's Pre-date which comes in pdf form allowing the purchaser to download and print out a colour calendar on a suitable printer and have this comb-bound at a small print shop at minimal cost. (There are also other smaller formats of the pdf calendar should you prefer, but the stage version looks very smart.) Pre-date serves as a very useful aid should you choose to manually fill out the days of a birthday book (such as Arilene B. Clark’s Fortune Telling Birthday Book) and also provides you with a very cunning crib sheet which I know will be invaluable to me! The crib sheet is cleverly incorporated into a calendar. In addition to being able to print separate sheets for each month and the cunning crib sheet, there are additional sheets included in the calendar allowing the performer to draw comparisons between the 52 cards in a pack and the number of weeks in a year, the 4 suits in a pack and the number of seasons in a year, and the 365 pips in a pack and the number of days in a year. Finally, there are a couple of videos on Bob's web site (and also in YouTube) of him performing his effect under each of two different scenarios and he also includes full instructions when you buy the download. And all of this for only $10! Bob has created a masterpiece here and is making it available to performers at a very reasonable price - I cannot recommend enough what a good deal this is. http://bobmillerinc-com.3dcartstores.com......5-1.html |
