I am re-releasing my handling of the card to sealed ziplock bag this spring in my manuscript "Kahnjuring." The effect was originally released in 2001 under the name "Zipped Up & Locked Away." In this reprint, I would like to credit the history of this effect. I'm told magicians such as Wayne Houchin ("Indecent"), Romi ("Sample"), Allan Ackerman, Daryl, and Dean Dill all have worked with this plot. Could Anyone provide specific references for me?
Thanks.
--Scott
PS: For those PMing me, yes, the effect is extremely similar to Houchin's "Indecent" but I have corresponded with him and we have both agreed that the effects were created independently. He had no knowledge of my previous effect.

I'd try writing to people like: Wayne Houchin, Romi, Allan Ackerman, Daryl, and Dean Dill for specific references. I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but it seems that you already know who has done the work, why not ask them for references to anything they've published?

In my experience, asking for second-hand references is often an excercise in futility. You wind up having to go to the sources anyway, and half the time you get mixed messsages from people who are not directly involved. Things like, " I seem to remember...", or "a friend told me he saw in in a Genii, back in the ninties...", or ""I think Loraytne had a version in one of his "Best of Friends" collections...". None of this is particularly helpful, you have to check the checkers, and you wind up calling Daryl and Dean, etc. anyway!

Best, PSC

Dean's trick named "Plastrik" is on his "Intimate Close up Miracles" Tape. He credits Daryl's version as his inspiration. (I'm not familiar with Daryl's version myself) Dean uses a grocery store vegetable bag in the effect. In Dean's trick, after the signed selection is lost in the pack, the entire deck is fairly put in the bag...set on the table...air blown in to partially (maybe 3/4 full)inflate the bag...the open end sealed off...then slowly and visibly the signed selection creeps out through the side of the bag. GREAT TRICK!

In the Magic Hedonists (Ammar, Daryl, Harris) "Brainstorm in the Bahamas" you'll find "A Hefty Penetration" where a signed card is lost in a deck. Then a clear plastic bag is placed over the performers hand holding the deck. The selected card rises and penetrates out of the bag.

Asher's effect "Deuce Bag" (from "Thinking Out Loud") is different: A card is selected and placed back in the pack by the spectator. A zip-lock bag is removed from your pocket and inside the bag is a wild card. The bag with the wild card is placed in the spectator's hand. After a moment the magic occurs and the wild card in the zip-lock bag transforms into their selection.

Over 20 years ago Dick Koornwinder fooled me badly with a card trick and a plastic bag. He did it at Fred Kaps' home.

Card chosen and lost in the deck. Deck is put into a plastic sandwich bag and twist tied (pre-ziplock?) and the chosen card rose up out of the deck and he handed it all to me for examination.

Lee's effect is more of a transformation than a penetration, I believe.

Yes, it is a transformation.

Paul Harris has an effect where the a card is selected, lost back in the deck and then placed in a plastic zip bag, then the card rises out and penetrates up and through the bag, when I have more time, I will search the books for a reference on it, but it is the perfect follow up for card to sealed zip lock bag. And yes, Lee Ashers is a transformation effect, and it is a magician fooler as well. I think the Harris effect is in AOA 3, but I could be wrong

As per a recent e-mail from Wayne, he is unsure if he is going to release "Indecent."

You are right, it is in AOA 3 and titled "A Hefty Penetration". It was originally published in the Magic Hedonists (Ammar, Daryl, Harris) "Brainstorm in the Bahamas".

I have a magi friend who is diabetic. He comes up with tricks using syringes because he uses them every day.

What makes these guys think of effects using zip lock bags?

They must eat a lot of box lunches or something.
