I just received Key Accessory and Exorcist Key. With regards to Key Accessory, Mr. Gerard provides a very thoughtful and logical routine. While the method used is not new, the value of Mr. Gerard's effect is the use of several subtleties in the handling as well as the inherent logical and natural use of the rubber bands to accomplish the effect.
I normally do the key bending effect as done by Mr. Osterlind. It always get a great reaction, more than any coin or spoon bending routine. However, Mr. Gerard's effect and routine does provide solid and professional advantages and subtleties that make the moves more natural and logical and enhances the overall effect. The use of rubberbands is an excellent idea and provides a very nice memento for the spectator. Some may feel that the price for this effect is high. Others may feel that the price is justified. Value of an effect is personal and subjective. Obviously Mr. Gerard thought very long and hard to develope this routine and has refined it through many years of professional use. For the price you will not get a new gimmick or a new method. But you will get a well thought out, logical, entertaining and mystifying professional routine. The value is in the eye of the beholder and in the user. If you will look and study the routine and use the routine, you will find the value. Best regards, Michael

Hi all,
The value of this routine lies in the fact that there are NO GIMMICKS and it could be done with all borrowed stuff and still be incredibly strong! Yes, I already was familiar with the basic method used and yes, I could have probably guessed most of the workings just from reading the effect however I am still VERY happy to have purchased the effect as just the tips from AG and clever use of the rubber band was worth the purchase. The price is high because the effect is killer! Try it once and you will be glad you bought it. Cheers, Al

About value…
I remember about 20 years ago I saw a magician perform an effect called shadow coins, and when I saw this it change my life, from then on I got into magic. He never showed me how it was done. However I did learn it a few years latter. On my way home that day I remember thinking that if I had the money I would have paid 1000$ to learn this. So after getting into magic I bought a lot of trips, I have been ripped off and I have bought tricks that I would have paid triple for. A perfect example is scotch and soda. I showed this trick thousands of times. People love it. Ultimate three card mote, again a trick that people love. Through out the years working as a professional, I have been offered a ridiculous amounts of money, by layman to show him how scotch and soda works. Many of you folks I am sure have had the same experience. So what is my point? Key accessory is a wonderful trick. What you pay for here is brilliant thinking. Can you put a real price on that? I do not think so. Companies pay people millions of dollars a year to come up with ideas and strategies. There is so much good value in key accessory. A real pro could see this. Then again key bending my not be your thing, if it is however this effect should not be passed up. It may seem that this coast a lot but in the long run it will be well worth it. Badger |

A good point and well made Badger.
I think we do sometimes lose focus on what works and what doesn't because we worry too mch about method. I bought an effect at Blackpool this year, because I watched it demonstrated twice and thought. WOW. When I saw the method I was so disappointed at first. My initial reaction was "I paid £15 for that?", I thought there is no way that'll fool anyone. How soon I had forgotten how I was fooled by it twice, and more to the point I had forgotten my reaction to it. Now I have performed it a couple of times - I am reminded at how strong it is. Bottom line is, if Key Accessory will allow me to do what it says, then I will use it, and consequently I want it, and frankly I don't care much how it works (as long as I can be sure I can pull it off) |

Excellent points Badger & Bannafish. Time and time again I see guys that once they are in magic and know a bit about methods then suddenly they lose perspective on things... a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Try to remember the first time you were fooled... before you knew how stuff worked. Try to remember that really simple, "You wouldn't buy it now because it's silly" trick. That moment when you were fooled is what real people feel and see. Stop trying to fool yourself and your fellow magicians... you are trying to fool and entertain real people... not fellow magicians. greg

Alright guys .....i am really impressed by the past few posts, Greg, Bannafish, and Badger, would it not be great if everyone understood the concepts of magic and entertaing as well as you 3....I know that these chat things have a HUGE range of people on them as well, but really good posts.
I am really humbled that so many have found this effect a gem. Thanks for your thoughts and support. I may be releasing a dvd on many other bends I have kept to myself ,with a couple of special guests...will have to see. I would be curious to know if you would like to see performances of Key accesory, and the exorcist key on the dvd?. I know many of you will find your own way to perform these effects, but maybe seing me perform them would give you some insight to my performance style, as a Hypnotist, not a magician. best, AG

IMHO there is far more to learn from performence footage than anything else. The downside is of course the potential for producing a lot of AG clones. Having said that in my experience people performing mentalism in a professional capacity already tend to have developped their own performance style, their own mental persona if you will, so I don't see that being a problem in this case. I would like to keep it if you can keep the release very small or only through email which is located on KA / EK / RT / IFW instructions...
I just hate seeing great things get released via Café hype and big dealers... very often you'll see someone at a meeting / convention doing the material horribly or copying everything word for word motion for motion and doing it horribly because its obviously a straight copy from somewhere... Keep it limited to those that can seek it out, imho.... |

This weekend I did a 1 hr walk around gig. (of course you end up staying for 2 hrs…LOL) I went with a pack of cards and key accessory. I never touched the cards. I did key accessory once. And before you knew every one wanted to see it and they all wanted a bent key…LOL. So the whole time at the gig I did just this one trick. So I did the gig charge 250$ and the gig manger was more then happy to pay me. After I bent a key for him of course…LOL.
So 100$ what a small price to pay WOW. |

Great story. I have very similiar story as well. The talk of the party was the BENT key on the rubberband. Everyone was wearing them. Unbelievable. Got paid $300.00 for that gig. Everyone wanted to get a BENT key on rubberband! $100.00 is a small price to pay for this powerhouse effect! Thanks Sly |

WOW, you guys in the U.S. are SO lucky to be able to get this HOT new routine for 99.95. I would order TODAY, but, being from Canada (Ontario), this effect will run very close to 200.00 Canadian, with the exchange issues, duty costs and shipping fees.
I'm going to inquire whether my Toronto dealer could get this item in. Those of you who already have it, all I can say is I'M ENVIOUS!! ENJOY... Kindest Regards... smitty |
