Have an invisable deck in your pocket, knowing the named card, pull out the deck and fan through to find their card reversed. Not as impressive as the original ending, but definitely a saver...

Looks like I'm late getting to this thread (to say the least!) I saw Jason Alexander open with this one at The Magic Castle a few months back, and it killed. I finally got around to ordering it, and I have to say I'm very happy. Clever idea, and the package includes several of the little touches that go toward making a clever idea into a killer effect. While I'm at it, I ordered mine from Magic Smith, and Aaron (whom I've never met and am not affiliated with) got it to me IMMEDIATELY. Between the service at Magic Smith and the product itself, this has been one of my better shopping experiences.

I guess you know I'm not a shill now! I actually got this one from Aaron Smith at Magic Depot. Apologies. I've had good experiences with both dealers, and with the common name...
Mea Culpa.

I just received this from Brad Burt ( http://www.nexternal.com/bburt/Product504 )
and I just have to say I am extremely happy with my purchase. I originally thought that this was something that could easily be constructed on my own, but I am so glad I didn't try and go that route. There is much more to this routine then I originally anticipated, and Mr. Allen shares all of his little tips and tricks that make this a real audience pleaser (on the included DVD). The effect is simple in itself, but the interaction you have with the audience via your facial expressions is what makes this so great. This is a great example of how the magic is only percentage of what you audience really wants to see, and how important your personality really is. I love it!

I have prodcued a blank version of The Silent Treatment or Universal Version as it is called. This has blank boards so you can write the routine in any language you wish. I have provided an Italian version of the routine in the instructions.

IMHO,
This is the perfect presentation as an opener! Think about it. All you do is basically flip pages The audience cracks up big time |

One more question--is it always the same card that is produced or can it be a different card each time?

Good question samdan.
The only thing I am worried about is; what if the card they see and remember is not the card in your mouth (that is a pretty darn hard "out" to get out of!!). Is there any way this trick can fail and leave you looking stupid?? Thanks. Paul |

No risk, Piz,with a little practice, this is foolproof. No worries about having the 'wrong' card in your mouth.
Samdan; it is not always the same card. I would echo the comments that this is a great opener. Doesn't make much sense to do it later in the show, once you've already spoken. However, my experience, having this both kill, and come across far less than ideal; has much to do with the audience's ability to read the cards. So, I don't agree that this works for any size room. I also learned a cardinal rule of performance with this routine; if you're performing for an adult crowd, always choose a spec with glasses on, so that they can actually read the cards!!! Other than that, it's one of the best values on the market for an opener! |

An invisible deck is the world's best 'out' for any blown routine, but completely unnecessary for The Silent Treatment. Every single possible out is covered in this handling....you have to own the effect to understand how.
The only way to screw up, is if you're not paying attention to what your spec says (and if that's the case, you'll have an interesting evening!). And you have all the time in the world to get it right, as the misdirection on this, with all credit to Jon, is brilliant! |
