I've a question for you clowns. I see that the shoes, good ones, cost a good amount. I've also noted that one of the greatest joys in a kids life is stomping on a clowns shoes then gleefully running away. I want to know what goes through your minds when your shoes get stomped, what about the first time they get stomped, did dreams of tortured children enter your minds?

Nope. I quietly, calmly and firmly ask the children not to step on my shoes. That's it. Whenever children are close enough to stomp on my shoes I'm actively entertaining them. If they persist, I warn them that next time they do it I will stop my act and walk away. If they stop, I let them help me with a bit of magic or humor. If they repeat the act, I promptly stop my act and either ask them to leave or walk away myself...depending on my venue. I ignore them for the rest of the event. 99% of the children I perform for are well-mannered and courteous and respond well to the first warning. The rest either learn the lesson or lose out on the fun.
If you're doing your job and providing quality, engrossing entertainment they're wandering little minds won't have time to contemplate stomping on your shoes. If shoe stomping is a common event for you...take another look at your act. They're simply bored and looking for something else to occupy them. My opinion, Skip

I had one kid try it. I diffused the situation by saying but that would hurt! "Would you think it was funny if someone stepped on your little bitty foot? No! It wouldn't be funny. It might even make you cry."
The Kid apologized. And that was what suprized me the most. |

Kids step on my shoes also. Each time they do, I ask them why?
They all had the same answer. Their mother told them to. |
