I suppose that if I used a pocketbook to pull them out of, it wouldn't have the same natural effect as a woman give it. Darn.

HN Review 84: Linking Life Savers / Linking Polo Mints – Colin Gilbert
AD: Colin Gilbert's Linking Lifesavers is one of the best close-up effects to come along in a long time. It's great magic with the most innocent looking items imaginable! From a roll of Lifesavers, a spectator selects any two. These are genuine Lifesavers. They can even take the two from their own roll. The Lifesavers are signed and, with no cover of any kind, they are visibly linked together!! While they are linked, the signatures are verified and the Lifesavers tossed back and forth form hand to hand to prove that they are unbroken. Then, the Lifesavers are unlinked and both handed back as souvenirs. Absolutely amazing! The gimmick is just great. No already-linked Lifesavers, glue, threads, etc. The reset is instantaneous and you can repeat it immediately. Self working and powerful. REVIEW: Well-produced soft-himber gimmick, which looks (and smells, if you carry it in a Lifesavers pack) just like the real thing. The idea of signing food seems a bit incongruent, but the effect found its place in my linking rubber bands routine. Unfortunately, it is rather delicate (the original Polo Mint version is slightly larger and stronger): you may need to purchase it twice, one for practicing and the other for performance purposes. You can get both versions by contacting Colin Gilbert himself – his address was published on the November (December?) 1998 issue of the Linking Ring. The original version came with an expensive and useless instructional video – fortunately no longer available. Overall rating: good H.

Another winner for extreme closeup. Got mine 2 years ago and it is still going strong. don't find the signing necessary either, the effect is close up enough and the prop well made enough that it looks very real....(also use it occasionally in my rubber band routine and am working on including it in a routine of sankey's 3 ring circus

I ordered linking magic mints 2 days ago from penguin, and when I got in to the forum I realised that instead of polos you have to use lifesavers which are not avaliable where I live, however in the demo photo of the linked product one is a polo one is a lifesaver now this could be missed very easily and was by be lol. there are many other photos of polos on the pic and the only lifesaver is the one the man is holding.
I assumed that lifesavers were what americans called polo's. I am going to wait to see what I get delivered and then maybe inquire as to returning them as this seems to me very misleading advertising. |

I have a "like new" Lifesavers trick for sale. "Vanishing Lifesavers." I'll sell it for 1/2 off any price for a new one at an advertised at an established magic shop. It might be a nice idea to combine these effects for a full routine!!

The polo version will be avaliable from magictricks.co.uk very soon it is advertised on their website.
However I purchased the magic mints from penguin in the usa as the display picture of the product clearly shows polo's. I assumed that americans called polo's lifesavers because they are the same shape as a rubber ring! just the same as the british call french fries chips. and in the 80's marathon was called snicker in the states. I am currently waiting for a reply from penguin as I want to return the lifesavers for a store credit, I hope it shouldn,t be a problem as I have spent £100's of pounds with them. |

I have both the magic mints and linking lifesavers. The wire in the linking lifesavers broke through the rubber, making this a waste of money. Why should I have to buy 2 of something? The maker should replace it if it breaks. I got the magic mints for free in a promo sale. There is no wire to break, so far it is better. And it came with an extra mint, so I don't have to replace it. Just the facts. ACE

Make sure you buy the ethical version (see the link in my signature).
Here you can buy an impromptu version (I don't know if it works with Lifesavers because it was created by a magician in the U.K.). |

The magic fakers site you mentioned is excellent. It really gives the low-down on who's who. I wish this came out 10 years ago. I could have saved a lot of money.

There are two different tricks being discussed here. One is Colin Gilbert's trick, which is the real one. The other is the knockoff.
Likewise, there are two different vanishing candy tricks. One is Vanishing Lifesavers by Viking. The other is "Vanishing Lifesavors" by MM. The viking product works. It costs about four times what the MM product costs. The MM product will work, but if you shake it, the gaff will probably fall out. Which one is the gyp? The one that falls apart.

Bill-
There's a 3rd trick (the one I brought up)! The improptu one. I've seen a knockoff pen through dollar and it was...well...never mind. |

Penguin has them. I bought from penguin before I knew they knocked off the idea. However, I must say, it's one of the best gimmicks I've ever purchased. They look perfect. I'll be featuring some work with gimmicked and ungimmicked lifesavers on my upcoming DVD- Catapult!
Now go buy the original.
