Hi guys,
I wanted to know if it would be ethical to publish a way to make the stargazer gimmick. I came across it and I can make a rubber band in almost any shape I like. The question is, is it okay if it does not hurt the inventor in any way? |

I don't think it would be unethical to share the process. If you were to make and sell the product it would be. I would like to know because I would like to make them in different sizes and colors than those sold.

I don't think it would be inappropriate. Once you have purchased it, remaking the gimmick is ok.
I would like to perform stargazer and would purchase the trick even if I could make it and figure the rest out. If I like the trick, I will buy it even if I could perform it without the purchase, just to support the creator. John |

It would be good to know how to make elastic bands in any shape you wanted. You'd still have to buy the effect to know the routine for getting the gimmicked star into the right position. The only thing the inventor would lose out on would be repeat orders for replacement bands.
Ultimately though it should be the moderators and professionals who make the decision. Bill |

Why don't you make a competing brand yourself with more shapes and ideas? After all, it is a free market and nobody is entitled to a monopoly.

I think in a way I would be hurting the guy's business if I publish it.
I will keep it privately circulated for respect to the inventor. if you want to know PM me, I think it is not so ethical to publish it here, so every lurker can see it. Nir |

I PM'd you.
With the news that the bands would not be in refills any longer, I was not going to purchase the effect. However if you're method works, then I will go ahead and purchase the effect. Given the recent news about the refills, and people like me who are opting to pass on the routine, I'd venture to say that publishing your method will now result in sales of his effect, rather then non-sales. |

I would PM the inventor about it. Maybe you can work out a deal.

dang it. Was looking forward to being able to mix crazy mans with gazer, oh well, will look forward to experimenting with a stove, a lighter, and some superglue tonight. I might try boiling it in hot water or something, I don't know

I have tried the method that Nir Dahan alluded to with only limited success. It merely involves putting a regular rubber band on a form and then applying some heat. You are lucky to get one band out of 10 this way. Very time intensive and inconsistent. This is definitely not the way the Star Gazer bands are made.
My suggestion is to make a friend who's in the rubber molding business (makes rubber bands) and have them make you a star shaped mold/die and then punch out as many as you want. |

I say, “bah” to Stargazer... well as long as they choose to make you purchase the full priced effect over and over to get re-supplies of said rubber bands.
Instead use the animal rubber bands! http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......=4&7 |
