I have two of Karl Fulves books, they are great. I have not seen the "green lite" though.

Bob Solari's "premonition" is a very nice self working card trick and easy to perform.

Truth be told, I was disappointed with Green Lite, then again I'm not really a big fan of effects with lots of dealing, which seemed to be the bulk of them.

^ Me too... I have Green Lite and give it no more than 5/10... 'Stolen Cards' and '$26,000 Bet' save the DVD without which it would be quite forgettable in my humble opinion (and I'm a Green fan).
By the way, if you like 'Stolen Cards' then I can recommend the even better 'Gemini Prediction' on John Guastaferro's Brainstorm DVD.

Terry LaGeroulds Cardboard Lie Dector is another really good self-working trick. It can be found in his Pasteboard Presentations II book, which I highley reccomend to anyone who does a lot of walkaround.
An amatuer practices untill he gets it right, a professinal practices untill he can't get it wrong.
Don't wait for oppurtunity to knock, throw open the door, grab it by the throat and drag it inside kicking and screaming. Magically yours |

Dear Mr. Fantasy, John Bannon's latest book has about 3 great self workers. They are my favorites in the book.

I agree that "Green lite" is not Lennart Green's best work but I still like some of the effects. The best useable self-working effects I have found are in the "Impuzzibilities" and "Further Impuzzibilities" booklets by Jim Steinmeyer Inexpensive but worth more than what they're priced at.

Mike Maxwell had a video out awhile back with selfworking material. There a couple in there which you can use as a closer.

I liked Green Lite. Granted there were a bunch of routines in there that didn't suit me, but that's true of every book and DVD that you buy.
It was the first version of ShuffleBored (Simon Aronson) I ever saw - now one of my favourite routines. Eye of Stonehenge is good - I think it's hard to find good self working tricks that doesn't require any deck prearrangement and you can customize the presentation of this one to suit yourself pretty easily. Also the old bit with the plastic cups under the arm plays really really well if you're performing for martial artists (which I seem to do a little too often) There's lots of other good self working stuff out there. Off the top of my head... Eugune Burger has a couple of Phil Goldstein routines on his L&L DVDs (Wagers of Sin is the only routine I've ever seen where the down-under deal is incorporated in a logical way!!) and a really good, really easy to do spelling trick Michael Ammar's Card Miracles series has some good ones. There're a few good poker demos, one from Dai Vernon (really strong, but takes too long to set up the pack IMO) and another by I think Harry Lorayne involving fake bottom dealing. Try to get your hands on some Max Maven/Phil Goldstein books or lecture notes, there's a lot of stuff (not all mentalism) but a lot of it is either sleight free or uses only very simple ones. |

Vinny, you are so right. Just about every card trick I actually DO came out of Scarne's book. I won't give away my age by mentioning that my paperback copy has a cover price of under a dollar.

I love the trick "elevator card" from Scarnes book. Also "My best self working card tricks" by Karl Fulves has some really great stuff such as "Magnetic force" and " "A card is found". I just learned these tricks and I have been very inspired by the simplicity of thier methods.

I agree with the the comments about green lite. I got it a couple of days ago and I found it disappointing though I've always been a great fan of his.

Hmmm might have to pick up a copy of this book and check it out. I'm not much into the self working tricks though, but every now and then when I find a good one.....
