Ok so it’s been 3 weeks since I've purchased my Schoolcraft custom coins. I wanted to live with the coins for awhile before I made any comments.
This was a big deal for me! It was a complete revamping of all the coins I use in my performances. I had put a lot of thought into what I wanted and who I wanted to commission to make my coins. A lot of factors went into my decision to go with Jamie. The two main reasons were the customer service I received and the projected turn around time. I knew his craftsmanship with coins was at least comparable to the other premium coin machinists based upon word of mouth and numerous web forums so this really wasn’t that much a factor for me. This is what I what I wanted: 10 barber halves all re-milled, same dates, same wear (nice patina) with a shell that matches. Copper / Silver coin matching the above I supplied the old Queen Elisabeth English Penny Chinatown Half to match the above halves supplied Johnson Coin. Schoolcraft Flipper 5 Morgan dollars all re-milled, same dates, same wear (nice patina) with a shell that matches. Well Jamie did explain to me that this was a big project and it would take some time to gather all the coins to make a set the matched my criteria. He gave me a turnaround time of 6-8 weeks which was better then the other turnaround times when I made inquiry’s in other places. Jamie’s Costumer Service is unequaled. Every time I called he either answered the phone and discussed my concerns or returned my phone call in a very prompt manner. He put me at ease and made me feel I was making a good decision investing my money in his craftsmanship. When he had finally gathered all the coins I received an email with pictures of the proposed coins he wanted me to consent to the coins before he started working on them which again really put me at ease. I knew what I was getting and I couldn’t wait! I remembered on one occasion I told him I want him to make me his best set ever! He told me that when he has created “The Perfect Coin” he would stop manufacturing gaffed coins but he would try to come as close as possible. I was so eager to receive my coins. 8 weeks later I came home and received the certified slip from the USPS on my door. There was no one home to sign for it. Darn! So after work the following day I went to the post office. I signed for my package. I sat in my car for at least 20 minutes and checked out each of the coins. All I can say is, “AMAZING”! The re-milling looked like it came right from the mint. The shells fit great and the cs & Chinatown half were perfect and they also included milling on the barbers also. Jamie was able to assemble 12 1908 Barber halves that all looked the same and 6 1900 Morgan’s that all look the same. These coins are beautiful and what Jamie does I consider to be an art form. I have been working a lot on edge grip and lower downs palm and by using these re-milled coins the sleights and routines are easy to perform and there is no slippage at all. I have more confidence doing the knuckle busting stuff then I did with my previous set. I’m in heaven. A bunch of years ago I picked up a flipper and I really didn’t like it. It was too awkward to open even if you filed down the rim. So I discarded it as not a viable utility and set my interests in other areas. Then I came across the new design that Jamie has created and it is truly amazing. In the past 3 weeks I have come up with two routines and 5 different utility moves. I may even come out with a pamphlet on the Schoolcraft Flipper. As far as some of the comments about the quality of the Schoolcraft flipper, well it’s just not true. Jamie’s design and craftsmanship is the best I’ve seen. Jamie’s policy is that if you’re not satisfied you can send it back and he’ll correct the coins to your specifications. He has also perfected the art of artificially aging so he can make the coins look older or make them very shiny while still keeping a dark patina. He does it all. Now If your still not happy with the coins he’ll buy them back from you at the same price knowing that this type of person will never be happy. This was a wonderful experience and it is money well spent. Joe Rindfleisch

As far as material... have a look at the ideas in Robert Swadling's Double Deception or better yet, look a some OLD books for stuff like the first visible coin jumps (ala threefly) and go from there. Then look at Roth's application of a folder and rework that trick to use your flipper. Have fun!

I've been going back and forth (at least the voices in my head have been) with the idea of purchasing a 3CM set... I realize it is not a custom set but none the less I believe that I (we) have just been talked into it.

Just got my coins from Jamie yesterday, and I'm sold. Very well crafted.
But the main thing that sold me is that when I called Jamie to let him know that my order was short one coin, he called me right back and explained the problem. Turned out it was MY MISTAKE that I made when ordering. Then he said that because I had been so patient in waiting for the order (which took longer than he had expected) he was going to send me the additional coin anyway, for FREE. I would definitely order from him again. |

I emailed Jamie a week ago. No response from him. Are there still personal issues unresolved?

I had a delay in hearing from him last week, but he responded on Monday and I ordered a Kennedy silver half from him. I just got it minutes ago. Pretty darn fast delivery. I'm in no position to compare with other top gaffs, but I will say this one is pretty darn sweet. I'll be adding an expanded shell set soon which he assures me will fit as he has recorded the exact measurements. I haven't had time to play with it more than a couple of tosses in the air...but it's pretty nifty.
My mind is racing with the possibilities! BooRadley |

International calls are expensive. Maybe I'll send another email in to try my luck. I am sure there are China gaffs but the quality isn't something worth noticing.
Btw BooRadley, why did you purchase a regular silver half? Can't you get those from coin shops in your area? I am just curious. How much did that half cost? CM |

Could be that it's remilled or darkened.
