Hi all,
Saw something interesting on the Stevens Magic site. This is a DVD to teach a sleight called the Haruda Hold. There is a video of this at this link. Just go down towards the bottom of the page in the Real Player videos, and the link is called Haruda Hold DVD kit. If this is something that interests you, the buy link is next it. "Harada" is the correct spelling and this technique is incredible. I did the English voice over work for this dvd and when I received the video I was blown away. If It wouldn't have had video explaining how it was done I would have watched it in slow mo over and over. It's that good.
No gimmicks just pure sleight of hand. Very jeaolous of those Japanese coin men..... : ) All the best, Kranzo

It certainly looks impressive... "not for beginners" – so just how hard is it on a 1-10? Anyone out there bought the DVD?

Nathan,
This certainly looks good, and I share your admiration for our Japanese friends. How is this different from the Cardini concealment?
Is THAT a PALMS OF STEEL 5 Banner I see? YARRRRGH! Please visit The Magic Bakery

How well does this work for more than one coin, ie if you have one there, can you add another, or reliably put two (or more) in place?
...to all the coins I've dropped here

What I wanna know is, what's up with the "special formula to help aid the learning process"?

Superglue

If that's true, then it's not "pure slieght of hand".

I was just kidding about the Superglue.
While I am not 100% sure I know what the move is, I think I have a very good idea where they are putting the coin, and how they are holding it there. If I am right, I have never seen anyone do this before... Very impressive! My guess is that the liquid is something that provides a little bit of tackiness to help grip the coin to learn it. |

Rob,
I just went to their website advertised at the end of the video clip. In the products section all the way at the bottom, they sell a product called "HAND AID". This looks to be the same thing as what is depicted in the DVD kit. The description says, "It is a lotion so as not to do the manipulation easily by the hand's drying. It differs from the spray type, and it is possible toputo it only on a necessary part." The description is probably a bad translation into English. I think what they are trying to say is that it is a manipulation lotion that keeps the hands from drying. It is not a spray and it can be applied to a specific location on the hand. Therefore, one can probably infer that the Haruda hold is a specific location on the hand that benefits from not being dry when holding the coin there. HERE is the link. Scroll to the bottom. |

Hi guys,
When I did my voice over work there was no mention of spray at all. This is simply a teaching tool kinda like training weels. But by no means is it absolutely needed. I have never seen a palm that duplicates it in technique. And yes it can be used for multiple coins and a very cool multiple coin sequence is taught on the DVD. PURE sleight of hand baby! All the best, Kranzo

How angly is this? Is it like some of Ogawa's stuff where it can only be done for one person?

Hmmmm that is like asking what is harder skiing or painting?
You can be good at neither if you never practice. Both can be difficult and also both are totally different skills. .....and here comes the big cliche..... What great skill doesn't take time to master? All the best, Nathan
