I've been going to Allmagic.com for a long time and I always find really useful tidbits here and there. Helpful hints and subtleties are offered on the site and I think it's a real resource for magicians.
Anyway, I came across this page, which was explaining a really neat packet trick that has a mentalism theme. It's a prediction type effect which is 100% correct, all the time, with no 'outs' necessary. Some will like it, some won't, but the really neat thing I like about it is that it instantly resets and I think table hoppers would find it very useful as it's fast and of course, as mentioned earlier, instantly resets. With such tricks, the presentation is what makes it effective, so I think one should really play this up before the reveal, to make it as strong as possible. The instructions on the site don't say that though, so one would have to use some initiative. Also, for the reveal, I think it would be more useful to do a Mexican Turnover Switch as that way you can show one card at a time and comment on the selections that were made, i.e. "You selected the..., I had predicted the..." instead of turning them both over at the same time, as the site suggests. But these are just my thoughts on it, I think the trick is good and has the potential to be very powerful in the right performer's hands. If you think about it, other sites might have just sold this as a stand alone download/item. Check it out: http://www.allmagic.com/magicshow/cards/......ing.html Enjoy, Take care, Logan

Wow, Logan, what a gem of a mentalism which only eight cards are used in this packet trick! Thanks for sharing this with us at the Café!

I like this effect. I think I'm going to sacrifice one of my old decks to it . . . Thanks for giving us the heads up on this one!
Cheers! Keith

Now, with ESP cards . . . mmm! I've got those nasty cheap cards that comes with the Dalal book, and I never use them (marked Royals for me . . . ). That really would make a good effect with them. Plus, the small number of symbols excuses the small packet. (The one thing I dislike about packet tricks is that the audience starts off wondering why you're not using a full deck.)
And using an old tarot will definitely be something I keep in mind when I get a bit more Bizarre under my belt.

For another gem on Robinson's site, try Doug Edwards' "Rubber Bandit" Fabulous effect, very visual, and the audiences always respond enthusiastically.
