New effect from Kevin is out!!! Check it out:

Borrow a key chain, a ring, and visually link the ring onto the key chain.

You know how long and how much work it takes to hook a key onto a keyring. But somehow, mysteriously, the magician merely touches a borrowed ring to a borrowed keyring and it is on it. This is Nexus.

The instructional video will teach you everything you need to know to perform this illusion. No trick props necessary, this illusion is completely impromptu. Can be done anywhere, anytime, with a borrowed set of keys and a borrowed ring.

It is available on his website : http://www.kevinparkerproductions.com

I might get it and post a review later.... if not I am sure someone will....

This trick could never fool anyone. I've seen it live and it ruined the reputation of the magician who performed it. Don't buy this, you'll thank me later. I agree with Dai Vernon, John Hilliard, and Robert-Houdin all who agree with me that this is the worst trick ever invented since Canz and Passing Thru.

Just kidding, I thought I'd save QuantumFizzicks the trouble since he hadn't spotted this thread yet. Seriously, the demo looks great and Kevin may have another winner here.

Is it just me or does that first example look like there is a hole in the key ring? It looks like he just loops the ring onto the keyring and just turn the key ring around and pull it off. I don't quite get the "trick". If someone buys this thing and it's something worth the 17 bucks I will be happy to buy it but it looks way too phoney from the one preview.

Apparently there are no extra gimmicks. Just the borrowed key ring and the finger ring. So there couldn't be a gap in the key ring...

It does look like there is a gap but I figured it was due to the poor lighting and the low resolution of the demo. After all, if there were a gap there, the girl (and us) would just go "so what?" and walk away. It would be nice to have the demo be a little clearer. Assuming that there is no gap and considering that it uses borrowed objects, it seems impressive.

I just got burned once from a trick that didn't look all that impressive from the demo and when I paid for it was a "donation" to this magician. I just want some type of unbiased review to see if this is for real. If indeed it is I'll DL it tonight. I wish I had 15 bucks to blow but I spent 300 already this month lol.

Tried to buy it and it won't let me get a username. Customer service sucks so I'll wait til someone else tells me anything. The bottle trick is quite simple and a good alternative to the standard bottle trick. I still say there is a hole in that ring. I watched the video 30x. I'm going to buy it just to say I told you so lol.

I've worked out a method but I'm having trouble finding a deceptive palm for the tinsnips and the clean up of the soldering iron is also a bit problematical. You need to do some serious stalling while standing there dirty before you put that sucker back in your pocket! Needless to say, early practice sessions were more than a bit dodgy. I'm hoping Kevin has found a slightly more elegant solution.

The tin-snips go up your sleeve attached to a strong spring. All you need to do is jump off a chair with your arm by your side and when your feet hit the floor the tin-snips will pop out of your sleeve and into your palm. NOTE: You need to grab them quickly before the spring retracts and sends them flying into your arm pit.

For the soldering iron you DO need some strong misdirection. I personally use a funkenring and some flash paper to ignite a small domestic cat, I find this creates all the misdirection I need. Admittedly the reset of the cat does take some time (and it's only good for a few performances) but it's this extra effort that separates the pros from the cons.

For the clean up - No need to stand around 'dirty' waiting for the soldering iron to cool , just send it into your topit. Ofcourse the iron will still be very hot, so the moment it hits the topit, I immediately take off the coat and throw it over the cat. Voila!!!

I just got it and I have mixed feelings about it. So I'll review it first , then maybe some thoughts.

1) The ad is correct in that there are no props other then the keys and the ring.

2) I don't think the method is new, as I remember a similar effect awhile ago, but cant place the name. And I may be wrong.....

3) While I have not performed it yet I did grab some keys and try it out in the mirror. It looks nice , but find it a little angle sensitive, and part of the hand positioning seems a bit akward.(sp)

OK so I like Kevins stuff (canz, passing thru) But am not sure about this. While it is impromptu, and the theory is ok, I just am not sure it will fly for the lay people. So Ill try it out at work tonight and see if itll pass the bar we set for stuff. I am not going to rate this yet as I have not played with it enough. HOpe this helps a bit.

Thanks Judah Vee. Can you definitively settle the question of whether there is a gap on the demo video. I'm assuming that there is not. Also, is the demo a straight ahead depiction of the effect, as it seems to be?

TIA

Kamus,
Yes the video is accurate to what happens. You take their keyring, count some keys, link their ring. I think I might like to add, that IMO ladies rings are the best for this. If you have D/L this , you will understand. I cant really answer the gap question. Not because I don't know, but it pushes near the exposure point. But remember I did say this was a bit angle sensitive. I have played with it last night and today, the move takes a knack to get smoothe, but I don't find it hard. Still don't know if I'll use this yet.

P.S: I had no trouble downloading this, by the way
