Hi Doc
Wow! Just look at the wealth of knowledge you have brought to light. My name is Tom Cutts and I publish a magazine on the theatrical performance of magic, AM/PM. My question follows in that vein. Do you have any sources you use for the development of your knowledge of theatrics? Were there any classes, workshops, books, or lectures that you took part in which gave you a background in presentational theory; be it comic or serious? Thanks. |

Tom,
I wish I could list a curriculum that I followed but I can’t because I didn’t. I am sure I could have benefited from some formal training. At least have shortened my learning curve. Lectures that I got a lot out of... Vito Lupo comes to mind immediately. I have tremendous respect for Vito. He can connect with a crowd from stage without saying a thing. It blows my mind. He is a serious student of music, movement, dance, magic... if you ever get a chance to take one of his workshops DO IT! Saw Fred Kaps when I first started... Fabulous man, fabulous magician... Bob Read is a person who had tremendous influence on me and my comedic style. His “lecture” was one of the best I have ever seen. It was his lecture that I patterned mine after at first... it has since evolved into what it is and probably bears little resemblance to his at this point. I am moving fast tonight... I have the night off and have many things on my to do list... so I can’t devote the time to this question right now... if I can dredge up some other stuff on this subject, I will be back... Is your AM/PM publication a hard copy smail type of thing or an email thing...? doc

A dig? No.
AM/PM is for people who are going to use the information. There are a ton of emags that are just there to entertain non performers. Hey, wait, that might make it a dig. Check your Private Messages on this board for more info. _________________ Tom Cutts Publisher, AM/PM About Magic...Performing Magic |
