Zoom is a great effect and can be a fantastic follow up to penomenon, once you have purchased it you will learn how to gimmick your own cards and will realise it is even possable to rig a whole deck if you wish. i think the fun part is letting them handle the card before and after the effect knowing they will find nothing. buy it you wont regret it.

I agree with Dr Dark... I you buy it, don't read the instructions and take a good, LONG look at the card you recieve... I gave up after 20 minutes. This is a gaff you will hand out to the spectators!

And Zoom has a number of other uses beyond playing cards. Definately worth having.

My suggestion: DO NOT BUY IT!!!
The effect is good but once you break the thread you finish... Yes it is right there is an intruction to build your own gimmick but it is very difficult. I have an experience where the thread is always off the card eventhough I put more glue.... Hengky |

I tend to agree with Hengky, but the real point is that you have to know yourself. Zoom is great at first. If you use it much, however, you eventually will break it (and if you aren't careful, perhaps because you don't understand it well at first, the gimmick might break in the first half hour.) You certainly *can* make a new one, but it takes some time and patience to do it right. The question is whether you're the type who will have that time and patience, or whether you're the type who will toss it into the drawer at that point. Consult your past own experiences, especially with IT, to gather a sense of your likely behavior.

Zoom is an all time favorite of mine.I've been using it for the last year, and use it with business cards all the time. If you perform for parties and want people to hold onto your business card, this is a great effect for you.
Heck, no matter what your business, this is a great way to have people keep your business card and remember your name. |

It is a great a effect, the method has more potential than you would think in the first place. And best off all, everything is examenable. before, after and during the effect. If you destroy the gimmick, you can make one or buy a new one for that price, or even buy a comlete deck from ben Harris, if you find it to hard to make one.

Like James D I put this on my business cards as well as playing cards. This can be a miracle in the right hands. Yes I broke mine after a while, but I went and but a whole load of the 'stuff' off Ben's site http://www.wowbound.com. It may seem pricey but it is worth it, I still haven't run out. BUY IT

I don't have Zoom, but what hengky said caught my attention. A magician colleague asked me to produce some loops for him, and no matter how I tried, I did not succeed. It broke, it made a mess. I think I destroyed about two yards of it. If the making of a gimmick in Zoom is anything like this, oj oj oj...

I think I have wroted about Zoom in another post ...
This is one of the greatest and weirdest card effects I have ever done. I made a special holder to make Zoom cards. Just slide the card into the simple holder and do the secret stuff. The holder "helps" to hold the thing for a fast working progress. 3 full decks with Zoom cards have been made with my special holder This is enough for many many years. I have also done some business cards with the Zoom secret. |

Mikael the Zoom thread is way to fine and weak to make Loops in my opinion. If you want loop use Ammar's elastic thread or you can buy Yikal's stuff in sets of 5, they are stronger than most other thread I have used.
But Zoom is great....I bought a packet of the elastic thread just to make zoom cards. |

I've had Zoom for a while now and I love it.I've also had the loops which I used only for the floating dollar bill trick.I think the loops and Zoom are great. And yes I have broke the Zoom gimmick but big deal.If you think are to hard for you to make just buy another one.Ten dollars is a very low price to pay for the look on a laymans face when he sees the Zoom card in action after he has handled it before you make it move. Its a very small price to pay for the effect it has on the spectator. In other words buy it and if you break it go and buy it again.

HN Review 31: Zoom - Ben Harris
AD: This effect is one of Ben Harris' most closely guarded secrets. He's been sitting on this for over ten years, using it privately for the most important occasions only. It is Ben's very favorite trick of all time because it meets all of his personal requirements for the ideal effect. A playing card is selected from the deck and examined. The spectators are asked specifically to look for "threads, motors and trap-doors" - anything devious. After the card is examined, the performer turns attention to himself. He turns up his sleeves and asks that his hands be inspected for anything suspicious. The table surface is also carefully inspected. Once the examination ritual is out of the way, the performer announces an attempted experiment in mind over matter. The playing card is tabled and the spectators asked to gather in closely. The performer now waves his palm-down hand in magical passes over the tabled card. He furrows his brow as if attempting to create a magical spell. After a few moments of intense concentration, the card comes to life and moves this way and that - away-from the performer's hand - across the tabletop. It shimmies along, seemingly with a life of its own, all the way into one of the spectator's waiting hands. Once again, all may be examined and then the effect repeated. This is one of those rare effects where an immediate repeat actually deepens the mystery without increasing the, possibility of the audience detecting the method. REVIEW: Interesting quickie that can be done seemingly impromptu with your own business card. It takes a while to prepare, but probably that's just me. Has the well-known (sigh) limitations of effects of Its kind - not sure you really need the refills sold by Mr. Harris. Overall rating: acceptable H.
