Interesting clip. I was amused by the phrase "If in the first half hour
you don't know who the 'chicken' is, it's you". Here we say "sucker" or "fish". I wish that film editors knew a little bit about the subject that they're editing. Anybody else notice that he dealt a second from under a "ten" and dealt himself another "ten". Later when the hand was shown-down, the "ten" that he avoided was in his hand. Oh well! Again, interesting - but typical of non-expert experts. Tony V |

You need to put a plastic over the head of the Expert to make him answer a question and one over the None-Experts head to stop him talking.

Roberto is no slouch but he would have a short life at the card table with any of that.

Actually you guys would be impressed. you are assuming everyone knows about shifts and seconds and everything we do. they aren't burning your hands the whole time because you've done everything else fair and then threw the one shift in to nullify the cut and you're golden. a lot of that would work at the card table and a matter of fact it does.

Everybody I play with in my 5-10 game not only knows what a shift and a second is, but would spot any one of the three glims in the video within about 5 seconds of sitting down at the table.

Well that's no good, you need to find a new game.

That's beautiful, cuber. Apply what you can do in an environment where it will work, don't bemoan the fact that other people would see through it in a second.

What makes you think Roberto (or anyone) doing a fake gambling expose demo would use any of those methods to make the money? It was for a tv show!

Watching him shuffle and run cuts does hint at the fact that he may know a few things more than what they have shown in this taping....
The first shift would have flown in most card games easily. The cut was completed and the deal began immediately. Due to the speed of the sequence, there isn't a whole lot of time in which to start thinking about potential shifts.

Marlo called it "The Draw Shift" and it was published in Marlo Without Tears. It's also appeared on Richard Turner's DVD, and the Forte GPS. The second shift is Filipino Freddie's shift. He's on a tape from Gardena performing that shift many times over and over. No one at the table says a word. It will definitely fly in the right circumstances. The trick is to locate those spots. Anything will fly in the right circumstances but as Filipino Freddie discovered it was not the right circumstances in Gardena. My advice is don’t try Filipino Freddie's shift unless your playing with the Muppets.

Tommy,
On more than one occasion you've hinted that FF made some mistake while at the table in Gardena. I assure you he didn't. Just because the camera caught the move doesn't mean it's a bad one. Afterall, security let him get away with it time and time again. (It wasn't their money.) His move was a nearly perfect display of guts and skill considering none of his fellow players knew what was going on. The fact that the camera caught the move doesn't mean anything...the camera catches a lot of moves that are still usable under fire. Jason
