Can anyone tell me anything about this man? I know only that he is or was a coin specialist. Any information is appreciated.

I don't know this for a fact, but I think he produced some interesting items, such as the Hathaway card rise and the Hathaway card to balloon.

Thanks Bill, I know also he has an item in Martin Nash's book by Stephen Minch entitled: The Hathaway Change. I'm surprised at so few responses.

Did he have a connection to Sedgehill Industries or was that someone else?

I know nothing of the man other than what he looked like, as he did some coin sleights for me at the dinner table at the NYCAN Convention in 1990.

Frank Hathaway is not the creator of the Hathaway card rise. The creator of the Hathaway card rise is John Hathaway Butler.

Don and everyone> Do you know who invented the Hathaway (signed) Card In Balloon apparatus?

John Hathaway Butler invented the card in balloon also. I beleive Fank Hathaway was primarily a close up magician.

I know that Frank Hathaway's second cousin, Jane Hathaway, was Milburn Drysdale's secretary for many, many years.

Frank Hathaway, the Prince of Coins, was the superintendent of the building I lived in as a graduate student at University of Toronto. His moving of 10 "loonies" from one hand to another (and he let us observe from whatever angle or distance we chose) was truly magical. I invited him to perform for the graduate program of which I was president and I'm not sure what was more entertaining--Frank's slight of hand or the look on the faces of scholars not inclined to belief in magic. They became like children again, rapt in wonder at what they could give no possible explanation for.
Frank told me of his glory days, of performing for Lucille Ball on her yacht and other fond memories. Frank was a gentleman of the old school. RIP |

Is any of his coin work in print? Sounds like interesting stuff.
