I am researching tricks with the out to lunch principle what are some good ones that do not feel like magic. For example nothing appears. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Unfortunatly I think that's the basic effect
I guess you could have a picture of a spoon straight and then it bends basically Something appears or vanishs or it changes places with another object not really mentalism effects. I guess you could do a spirit words appearing on the page or - I really don't know |

Peter Eldin's "Pocket Book of Magic" has an effect using the OTL principle in an "add-a-number" effect. Otherwise, you're probably limited to spirit messages - there's a nice routine in Marc Lemezma's "Mind Magic".

Memory Loss (Jay Sankey 22 Blows DVD), excellent mentalism effect. Not good if alcohol involved though:( I found this out the hard way.

In one of my books I have an effect where a picture of a padlock opens- Kind of semi-bizarre effect along same lines is in the works.
Also did a warewold effect with a photograph based on same priciple. OTL is really a great principle and can be applied in dozens of ways aside from the standard appearance. I saw a birthday candle version once, where the flame gets blown out and spectator gets their wish, though not familiar with the source.
Leaping Lizards!!! Who knew it was possible.

An "add-a-number" effect is the best use of the OTL principle (for mentalism) Can do it with the Stealth assassin wallet.

I have a significant section of my upcoming book, "UNCONVENTIONAL" (H&R Magic Books) dedicated to the out to lunch principle.

No, instead let's bring this (and my Death Warrant II) on the surface so everyone can enjoy it
And, staying on Memory Lapse, I absolutely love the take Gregory added to it. It's another whole layer that has been thrown upon the OTL. Last but not least, check out what another famous Mentalist has dubbed the BACK FROM LUNCH (BFL) principle... It's rather interesting but a little underground, so good luck with your search.

Regarding 'memory loss', I agree with Greg Arce as I have been using this a lot. I even emailed Jay some tips I have discovered through repeated performances. He is publishing these in his upcoming newsletter. It is such a strong effect condiering it's simplicity. You can build it all up way out of proportion and truly give people a very weird and 'believable' memory loss demonstration. I always liked the premise since seeing Jermay's 'Skullduggery' but found his approach too hit and miss for my purposes.
I also like a Greg Wilson (mentalism type) effect using the OTL principal - it is on his recent series 'In Action' but the name of the effect escapes me now. He talks about his 'Stockholder' (an OTL gimmicked business card wallet) in the explanation for the effect. Mark Strivings also has a very strong OTL effect in his 'Ultimate Technicolor Miracle' set instructions. This is one of the best and most versatile utility gimmicks I have ever bought and I highly recommend it. Cheers, Al

Selective Amnesia by Richard Bellar from his Urban DVD is a great effect where the spectator is left convinced that they have forgotten something that was written on a card. Very nice and good reactions from audiences.
