Hello,
Could any one tell me where I could find a book telling me how to have card coming from my mouth? Thanks, KJ |

KJ,
I can't, but I can give you a whole bunch of reasons why NOT to do it (the first one being, it's disgusting to the audience!) |

Do a search for ghetto magic on google and you should be pleasantly surprised.

KJ, if you would like a stream of cards coming from your mouth, lol, you can get Jeff McBride's DVDs.

I don't really understand if you mean the effect or the flourish.
if you mean the flourish then yes , get McBride's card manipulation series!!! if you mean the effect then I recommend you don't do it. there are better places to produce a card from - zipper maybe ?:P if you like the idea you will find it on brian tudor's "heckler" , lol. good luck ! -Matt

Wow.. Tough Crowd! LOL... I have done a ambitious card finish with a Mercury Card Fold to mouth. You do the fold, put the deck up to bite their card out, load card in your mouth, Bite the wrong card out, they think you failed. Then show them the deck as you fan the cards from hand to hand, they are watching the cards... Ask them to find their card when they can't can't find it they look up and you have their in your teeth. I will say some do get grossed out, it is like the David Blane thing when he did it and the Chinese girl didn't want to take the card... Just don't make them take it... LOL>>

The explanation on the Jeff McBride DVDs is great. But I think that if you're a beginner what you're really looking for is a source that teaches how to get the cards into your palm deceptively before you produce them from your mouth.
Right now I can't think of a good place off the top of my head. As for whether or not cards from mouth is tasteful or not - that depends on your audience. I think just about all people, deep down inside, enjoy seeing things that are startling and silly. On the other hand, I was told once (by Mark Lewis I believe) that producing things from your mouth is not appropriate for young children because "they" say that it encourages them to put things in their mouths that they might choke on. |

Go to http://www.magichampion.com/. Buy Shawn Farquhar's new DVD and watch "Shape of My Heart" routine. Big fan of him.

I always looked askance at the Card from Mouth until I saw Jon Allen's SILENT TREATMENT. I brings the concept to an entire different level. You can look about and find a demo of Jon doing the routine at Fechter's. Just simply kills. Best,

I forget what it's called, but Sankey has an excellent version (my favorite) as applied to the card-to-mouth effect on his Revolutionary Card Magic DVD. It mixes with a torn-&-restored scheme and transpo to create a really killer routine. Highly recommended.

Brad, thanks for the kind words. The main reason why The Silent Treatment is the favourite effect of mine is because of the premise. Finding the card in themouth is not just a fun way to finsih the trick; a card can appear anywhere so why in the mouth? The card in the mouth is integral not only to the effect but the *reason* for doing the effect. I think you do have to ask, "Why am I finding a card in my mouth?" Having said that, I saw Jeff Hobson on Sunday do his Card in Mouth rouinte and it was fantastic... 99% because it was Jeff Hobson.
Creator of iconic magic that you will want to perform.

Dear Jon:
I agree with you on the 'reason' for the finale in Silent Treatment. What makes it so hilarious is that no one really knows what the heck is going on, but it's funny to watch you make the faces, etc. Once the card appears everyone goes, "Sure, what else could happen!", and finds the logic of it fullfilling. Congrats on a clever routine. Best,
Brad Burt

I believe there is a version in Frank Garcia's tapes as well. Its a signed card to mouth routine, it is very easy to do, and although some say the audience does not like it, that one has always killed for me. Simple, quick and stunning. You just have to pick and choose the situation like all effects.

And of course the most...umm...unique version...is probably Simon Lovell's in his book Simon Says. (Which has a wealth of other great material in it).

I don't know exactly on what volume, but Jeff McBride, should teach this.
