Ok, so I saw this demo for this packet effect...Looks very nice, but the patter is a little iffy for me...I just don't like it, not to mention that it does not fit my style. Has anyone come up with something else?

Perhaps it'll be easier to respond if you could describe what your "style" is. I've been killing with the presentation/handling described in the manuscript. I've also enjoyed presenting the effect where the spectator merely "thinks" of one of the queens and doesn't name it until right before the last facedown card is revealed. |

I present the jokers as "bodyguards" instead of an "entourage." My patter goes along the lines of nobody being able to find the queen because her bodyguards are so good. Then, when the spectator "finds" the queen, I say "She must need more bodyguards" and reveal the remaining queens have become jokers.

I simply state that the Jokers are there to influence the person's choice of cards. I then reveal what I mean.

I say the Jokers are just cards to stop any confusion as they have no value, and they stop my touching the cards so there is no funny business. I also get them to think of one of the queens until there is just one left in between the cards, adn then name their queen, thus showing I couldn't have manipulated their card

Well here's one scenario. "Like those levitation threads on the Café, the Queens have vanished and turned into Jokers !

In a nutshell..I've been saying the jokers are paparazzi..spieling on a bit how the press hassle the royals, then with climax...well you just cant get away from em ..surrounded by more picture takers

I LOVE Entourage. Here's the presentation I use:
I’d like to show you something special, a trick I’m kind of famous for. It’s called “The Four Card Trick”. Remove the cards from the envelope and spread them, displaying six cards. Oh, I know what you’re thinking, there are six cards. You see, the trick is actually about the four face-down cards in the middle, but the last time I did this trick the guy was so freaked out he grabbed me and insisted I was using sneaky sleight of hand. So, to cancel out any thought of sleight of hand I decided to employ some bodyguards. With the use of these bodyguards, sleight of hand is impossible, and hopefully, the trick will end up being a little more amazing. Cleanly show the full faces of the Jokers and replace them. First, I need you to imagine that the four dace-down cards are the four Queens. Can you do that? Great. Table the cards. As you know, there are four different Queens in a deck, the Queen of Clubs, Hearts, Spades, and Diamonds. When I snap my fingers I want you to name any one of the Queens. I’ll even tell you when I’m going to snap my fingers, so you can change your mind in your head as much as you want before you say it aloud, because once you say it, it’s locked. Okay, I’m getting ready to snap, is that all right with you? Fine. Snap your fingers. The Queen of Clubs [or whatever]! Pick up the cards, making the adjustment if necessary. Only one of these cards is the Queen of Clubs, the one you decided to name. And here’s where things get interesting. Touch the back of the card that you think is the Queen of Clubs. Have a card touched. Hold out your hand. This is the part where people thought I was doing sleight of hand. You said this was the Queen of Clubs, so it isn’t this one…or this one…or this one. Very slowly pull out the face down cards not selected and lay them onto the spectator’s hand. I don’t suppose…you found it! Fantastic work! Perform the one move in the trick to display the Queen of Clubs between two Jokers. Oh, there is something I didn’t tell you. You see, when I told you I decided to use some bodyguards to make the trick a little more amazing, I didn’t tell you how many I was using…. Turn over the spectator’s cards one at a time, revealing Jokers, to end (or let the spectator turn over the cards himself). |

Yes, thanks David for your creative thinking.
I too love this effect. Always trying to be flexible with presentations keeps things fresh and entertaining. I often use the premise of thinking of a Queen at the begining of the routine, and finishing up with them naming it. It really does add to the strength of what transpires. The simplicity and ease in the handling enables the performer to have complete freedom and pleasure, presenting this to everyone who sees it. |

I think waiting to name the queen after the first 3 are eliminated would add a bit to the routine.

I don't personally like doing the move at that stage of the effect. To me it looks dodgy. At the beginning (as stated in the instructions) you have the perfect opportunity to accomplish this with no suspicion aroused at all.

David, Thank you for your creative thinking & idea!
Yes, the spectator must be made to think of a Queen at the beginning of the routine, and ending by naming the thought of Queen. This certainly adds to the strength of the effect.

David, Excellent presentation!! I have one question, what is your reasoning behind having the spectator touching *THE* queen that they thought of, in contrast to the original routine (of touching the one you don't think it's your queen)?
thanks! |
