I am currently using my Moluccan Cockatoo in my bird routine. I am using a b**k steal from my assistant in conjunction with a holder I purchased from Puck. It has served me well for years. My Moluccan's name is Peaches and she is the greatest show bird...OK, I am getting carried away here. I would greatly appreciate any input ya'll (I'm from Texas) might have regarding additional appearance effects I could use with my birds. I have another cockatoo (an umbrella) that I want to use in my routine but looking for some other way to achieve the production. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Immensely! |

I used to put mine in a chalet doves to dog box and attached a simple thin hand towel to the inside to help cover him from getting creative with some interior re-decorating of the prop.

Thanks for the input sperris you don't miss a beat. Are you familiar with the
PROTEAN MYSTERY (JOHN GAUGHAN) or is anyone else for that matter? I saw it on the magic auction site: http://www.magicauction.com/Mag_auc/illusion_pg2.htm Although this item or even a chalet doves to dog box is not a monumental investment I have been spending a bit too much on magic stuff lately. Anyone know where I might be able to find plans for either of these items or similar? Thanks again! |

I've pulled them out of my table after vanishing a cage, using the cloth as the cover to steal the bird.
You can load them on your own back using a split in the curtain behind you, and magnets in your back that line up the the bag/harness. Puck's sketch pad is a GREAT way to do it. I'm using it in my act now, then have the bird fly off at the end. I'm also free-flighting my military macaw at the end of my act, and he just lands on me. To someone who hasn't seen macaws fly, this looks very magical. There's just a few ideas... hope they can help! Dave

Thanks Dave for your input. I used to do the same thing with the table steal before I started using the other method. I now use the cloth from the cage to do the back steal which to me is more amazing. I would greatly appreciate some more detail on the self back steal and any information regarding a supplier of super magnets.
Incidentally, bought your training CD's back in 2004 and I am still on your mailing list. Your info has helped me immensely. In fact the umbrella cockatoo that I am wanting to employ in my routine now was purchased around the same time. He was a rescue bird even though I paid $300 to rescue him (his name is Fred) and came to me with literally no feathers from his neck down to his tail. The only feathers he had were on his head and that was just because he couldn't get to them. Fred was also a considerable screamer and took a few finger chunks here and there. I want to tell you that primarily due to your training and info and my new understanding of how to get into a birds head he has become the perfect companion. Fred has all his feathers now, even secondary wing feathers, I mean there isn't a blank spot in his foliage; he is just absolutely gorgeous. He never screams obnoxiously but does get excited when he first sees me just to say hey the flocks all here. He hasn't even thought about biting me in almost two years now and is just the perfect bird. Thanks Again! |

Yeah I had gotten dave's training cds for a buddy of mine too and he really likes them too. If you want I'm refurbishing a doves to rabbit production box...I'll send pics..its not a chalet but the front does have this cool like metal zig-zag spider web type design to it. The whole prop is metal so you won't have to worry about the parrot destroying wood. I was actually planning on mounting the same black cover/blanket insside in teh event anyone would use it for a parrot or small dog. I jsut know if you invest in a chalet you'll spend lots of money and wait 8 months to get it.

I've made a couple of botanias that let the bird go inside and them pop the bush off. One was even made to match the bird's colors.

I just checked them out on your website. This is definitely a possibility and a choice candidate for my routine. Those are awesome! Plus I am sure there would be no problem training a cockatoo to pop the bush off one of those babys!!! Thank you Richard for your suggestion.

Glad they helped! I love hearing stories about how the DVD's have helped people out. Would you mind if we use your story for our testimonials web page? http://www.birdtricks.com/testimonials.htm Please let me know, so we can get a picture from you as well. If not, then don't worry about it. :o) Regarding magnets - I just searched online for rare earth magnets that are about 1" in size. I also ordered the 3/4". You'll have to play around with them to see which work best. It depends on the thickness of your jacket really. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please PM me, as I don't want to expose too much info in a public forum. Dave
