I saw that someone posted this for sale in that section of the forum, but have not seen any reviews on it so here goes:

Anyone seen this demo or own the effect? I can't tell if I like it or not by the looks of the demo, but the penetrations are really stunning.

The demo can be viewed http://www.elmwoodmagic.com/?nd=full&......myaf=141

If I somehow missed this being reviewed somewhere already, my apologies!

This looks closely related to the Gallo routine. What I'm seeing are moves, not a routine. The one penetration is really nice, but I would go to the Gallo DVD for a full routine.

The effect belongs to Neil Prete who put the routine years ago. It is call Shake Sphere. Which is the name that Mike Gallo uses on his dvds.

Magico is correct. This is a knockoff of Neal Prete's effect ShakeSphere! Mike Gallo does in fact have a great routine using Neal's effect and fully credits it (although he credits Neal's dad Tom). I just spoke to Neal and he will be contacting Murphy's Magic Supplies tonight to cease sales. Buy the original (it’s even less expensive!).

PS Isn't this the same guy who is now advertising Larry Becker's purses as his own?

I don't know if this is a knockoff of some other effect or not, but I do know that it just disappeared from Elmwood Magic's website after only a day. Perhaps it has something to do with this?

I would love to have the real Shake Sphere. Where is the contact for this effect?

I have Bob Solari's salt shaker effect you penetrate a penney inside the shaker . The spec has a choice the penney or the nickle . I realized after watching the demo I can do the same effet with the solari shaker & the balls from my chop cup ! nice effect .

If it's like solari's Shaker which I think it is by watching the Demo Yes you can examine the shaker . The top of the shaker is not examinable if you put the top on the shaker the gimmick will be hard for the spectator to see.

I just got Shaker a couple of days ago. Perfect idea for working restaurants. I am a bit disappointed with it, thoug. The release is very difficult. The M***** should have been smaller, for that purpose, and it is visible thru the top. Allowing a spectator to look down onto the top would risk exposure of the gaff.
I think this could have been manufactured better. I also watched the video before and after I purchased this and found myself saying " Yeah, his can do that, but mine can't ".
Any suggestions on minimizing the ......strenght of the gimmick ????

We have also heard from a customer of ours about this same problem.....and after reading this post, I have decided to pull this item from our store until Mr. Lovins can address these issues personally.

We added the disclaimer above his product in our store so that others can be aware as well: http://www.mjmmagic.com/store/shaker-by-......777.html

I have had a few E mail conversations with Rodger and he is sending me a new top. I should either get it tomorrow or saturday....or a couple weeks from now, since he has left for a two week vacation. I will post my findings as soon as I receive the new top.
It does bother me that he told me he has had no other problems with this, while similiar problems with this prop are now arising here.

I do have similar experience with John. The gimmick certainly should be replaced.

I received a new top, for the Shaker, a few days ago and that has made all the difference. Apparently a small shipment of these had the wrong top and I was one of the unlucky ones' to get it. However, the replacement solves the problem and it works great. I used it at one of my restaurants last night and it " blew a few people away ". I'll be using it on a regular basis.
I also discovered that if I plant it on a table, just prior to customers sitting down, it has a really " Killer " effect with the patrons. After that initial " Teaser" performance, I take the " Shaker " away and return moments later with a real shaker filled with salt, apologizing for the mistake. Trust me, that shaker of salt gets loads of attention after that and also warrants my return to the table for more close-up magic. It's a winner !!

Don't understand why people continue to support knock-offs! Get the original from Neal.

The cap is gimmicked? Wow. Then that's not only a ripoff. It's a WAY INFERIOR ripoff of Neal Prete's Shake Sphere. Nothing about the shaker is gimmicked with Shake Sphere. In fact, you can let spectators examine both the cap and body afterward without having to switch or ditch them. And I guess Lovin's package doesn't include the old Shake Sphere booklet from 1991 either. The booklet has 18 additional routines and applications of the basic principle. Contributions include a headline prediction by Richard Osterlind, a great looking Dave Williamson strike penetration by Chris Hurlbert, and a few others by Tim Trono, George Schindler, Paul Diamond, Ron Dayton, Bobby Plaut, Jason Whiting, and Bill Hoagland.

It's weird that Murphy's would distribute the Lovins product, since Tim should have known immediately that this was a ripoff. Heck, Tim actually contributed a couple of routines to the original 1991 Shakes Sphere booklet! Imagine that.

If the original is not gimmicked, how can this gimmicked version be a ripoff? Isn't it completely different in method? Does the original have claim over all effects that are penetrations into a salt/pepper shaker even if the methods vary? I own the Lovins trick and am appalled at how poorly it is made - it should be so incredibly easy to make properly with the perfect strength gimmick that is not visible thru the top. Lovins should be berated, but I question the rip off, but I could easily be convinced otherwise........and for $30!!

I know I am reviving an old thread, but The Shaker is great. It's a nice visual display for a chop cup effect. I am not sure why people are mentioning the gimmick thru the top. With the shaker I use it blends perfectly into the reflection of the metal, and is not all that noticable. Maybe mine is updated?

You can't really call it a knock off.

Waist of money. DON NOT BUY.

I just received this and it's absolute crud.

This is nothing you can't make your self by adhering a magnet to the inside of the top of a salt shaker. I realized this was the method obviously, but I actually thought the creator had integrated the magnet into the shakers cap in a more intelligent way, more fool me. He's just stuck a magnet onto the cap with glue and yes it's totally visible through the holes at the top.+ the strength of the magnet is not conducive with achieving the same effect repeatedly.

I would go back to a previous post, if the method is different (gaffed top/vs non-gaffed top), it wouldn't be a knockoff. Otherwise, every version of triumph would be a knockoff (gaffed versions would fit here nicely.)
